MIL has had dodgy gut for over a month and is undergoing tests to see what it could be.
Blood tests have thrown up nothing but GP says there is somethign 'underlying' in her lower bowel
camera next week.
DH convinced she's got bowel cancer - what else could it be if not that ?
what does 'underlying' usually mean in laymans terms ?
shes basically had the runs for all this time and feels sick a lot of the time
shes losing weight obviosuly as she cant keep food down.
Any thoughts ?

Ulcerative colitis? I have a friend in her 80's who has flareups of this involving pain and bloody mucus. She has six monthly colonoscopies and has a polyp which they try to remove, can't quite get all of it, but non-malignant.

When she has a flare-up, they give her medication which sorts it out and mostly she is in very good health.

I agree with Allypally. Lots of things it could be. Difficult I know, but try not to cross bridges...

Yes, it could be lots of things - diverticulitis, colitis, crohns, ibs, polyps, gut infection, food allergy etc. Only way to know is to get a camera in there. I know cancer is always at the front of peoples' minds with symptoms like this, but there is often a totally different cause. I agree, not to cross bridges.
