Smear test recall and heavy bleeding after sex.

I had a smear test done two weeks ago and received a letter for recall. The nurse said I was bleeding when she took the smear so it might be recalled and it was in the middle of my cycle so not my period.

I have also had very heavy bleeding after sex and I'm starting to panic a bit. I don't want to doctor google but I was wondering if anyone had similar symptoms.

I have had bleeding when having a smear (in the middle of my cycle). I think she sort of scratched the cervix or something. I was recalled for a repeat. (I think they can't get a good look at the right cells if there is blood in the sample.) I had to wait three months (I think) for it to settle after the first smear. Very worried. Repeat smear was fine.
Wishing you well. xx

Thanks wolfiefan but I was bleeding before she went "in" she kinda had a look and said I was bleeding.

Don't panic. Even if it is worst case scenario (which it probably isn't) then the cure rate is good.
I had cervical cancer and I'm fine now.
Whatever you do, don't google. I googled afterwards and am glad that I didn't before. You see the negative bits and not the positive bits.

I think you should make a GP appointment and may well need a referral to gynaecology.

Bleeding after sex is not normal, and if you were bleeding mid cycle to the extent that a smear could not be processed then I wouldn't wait to repeat the smear, I would see the GP soon.

Have you been to the GP?

Bleeding after sex is not normal but most commonly due to a cervical ectropian (previously called an erosion). This isn't unusual or sinister but needs checking out. Go for the repeat when you aren't bleeding ie avoid intercourse for at least 48 hours before and mid cycleish. Then when the nurse has a look she will very likely be able to see what's going on and get a good smear for cell analysis. Please don't worry yourself too much. Just get it checked.
