but I'm feeling guilty now. I know its not a bug, she has a cough and lying down in bed made her sick when she coughed. She seemed ok this morning and ate two bowls of cereal, should I have kept her off?

nephews have vomited repeatedly during the night, because of a cough. My sister took them to the gp, because it was an ongoing problem and she was in a dilemma about school etc as the two of them seemed right as rain when kept off school and bouncing off the walls. Gp said if no other signs of a problem, then it's their gag reflex being kicked off by the cough.

If one of my two were sick twice in the night, I'd think very carefully about whether they were well enough to go to school etc, but I wouldn't automatically rule it out.

Thank you Puff, nice to have someone singing from the same hymn sheet as me.

And lol littlesarah - absolutley. A day off work with a little girl who is poorly and wants quiet cuddles and to watch the cat in the hat - yes please

I have a lingering bad cough - I wake up, cough like mad, then I'm sick. Same thing at night. I am fine and am continuing with my day as normal.

DD1 also has cough. She was sick Friday 6am & again at 8am. But she'd been off her food the day before so I kept her off. Lots more D & V through the weekend, she didn't go back to school until Tuesday.

You judge each case on it's merits.

And as it's my bedtime, I'm now off to cough and be sick

CJ, I had the same thing as you and I needed antibiotics to shift it.

sandyballs - was she OK in school?

thomcat - I was singing from the same hymn sheet. As an uncaring irresponsible parent .

Blimey, caused a bit of a stir here . She was fine at school, no probs at all. As I said earlier, it was sickness due to a cough and lying down in bed.

I agree it is wrong to send an obviously poorly child to school, but there was no temperature, no runs, she was jumping about in the morning and ate two bowls of cereal, which is when I made the decision to send her to school, and I'm glad I did.

At the dds' school, they advise parents to keep children out of school for 24 if they have been sick in the night. This is not just in case they have something contagious, but also because if they have been up vomiting during the night, they won't have had enough sleep and will be exhausted during the day.

If i had kept Dd2 off nursery/school every time she was sick in the night then she'd have never been there.

Dd2 is asthmatic and once she starts couging she will not stop until she is sick and brings up all the gunk off her chest. Otherwise she is fine in herself and so I can tell if it's a bug or not.

Haven't ever been wrong yet.

DS (5) was sick last night a few times - VERY unusual occurance. Panicked slightly as we had had some friends with children over for a BBQ in the afternoon and I was terrified I had poisoned them all! I kept him off school today althogh deep down I knew he was OK.

Gave him flat 7-up today and he asked for more tonight saying "Now Mummy you know how much you wante me out of the house tomorrow, I need more 7-7p"!!!!
