but I'm feeling guilty now. I know its not a bug, she has a cough and lying down in bed made her sick when she coughed. She seemed ok this morning and ate two bowls of cereal, should I have kept her off?

oh you're just plain evil Flamesparrow

HuwEdwards · 28/09/2006 11:24

Sandyballs - yes, did this with my DD2 last week - she coughed up sick, not much, absolutely certain it was no bug and she went to nursery (she's nearly 4 btw). Like your dd, she ate an enormous breakfast and I alerted nursery to the fact that she might be a bit quiet.

She was fine.

lucykate · 28/09/2006 11:24

if its just a cough, i'd send her in. if there's other symptoms too, temperature, pale, tired etc, i'd keep her at home

juuule · 28/09/2006 11:25

If one of mine was sick a couple of times through the night I would definitely have kept them off school the next day. I would expect that at the very least they would be tired with being awake, being sick.

foxinsocks · 28/09/2006 11:25

cod's not had a child with reflux

you get used to the cough or sneeze resulting in puke! Mine used to do that all the time and in fact, ds had this cough recently and he did puke in the night.

prob wouldn't send them to school though (just because they are normally knackered if they've been puking in the night).

Think it is Ok as long as you are sure tis not a bug (though v difficult to know I imagine!).

Flamesparrow · 28/09/2006 11:25

Oh good - I'll stand in the playground in a minute and do lots of evil cackles

PcCOD · 28/09/2006 11:25

lol at fs

lucykate · 28/09/2006 11:26

sandyballs, don't feel guilty about sending her, like tc says, if there's a problem the school will ring. you can always ring them at lunchtime and check on her if you are worried

Thomcat · 28/09/2006 11:28

Being sick in the night and their sleep being effected is a different matter.
And appearing pale, quiet, a bit hot etc, all different and child should be off school.

However, puking while coughing after a big breakfast, of having a bit of a runny nose, get that kid to school!

sandyballs · 28/09/2006 11:29

Exactly TC, don't want them thinking they can be off for any little pimple or tiny puke. Blimey, I had to practically have a limb hanging off to miss school when I was a kid.

alexsmum · 28/09/2006 11:45

i wouldn't have sent my kid in becasue surely they would be knackered after being up in the night vomiting?

Bozza · 28/09/2006 11:50

2yo DD was sick in the night once a while back. Her sleep was only disturbed because I spotted this when I went to bed and woke her up to remove her from the pool of vomit she was lying in. I washed her off, changed her pjs and DH changed the sheets and she was back in bed and slept til morning. She (and I) has been much tireder on the nights she has woken 6 or 7 times for no observable reason (she has all her teeth). There were no other symptoms, she ate her breakfast, I sent her to nursery.

sandyballs · 28/09/2006 11:51

She was a bit tired, not nothing an early night tonight won't sort out.

Alexsmum - Sandyballs DD wasn't sick during the night - just once after coughing and eating 2 bowls of cereal.

Thomcat I think actually she was sick in the night, but then ate the 2 bowls of cereal this morning thus proving she was feeling OK.

Seashells · 28/09/2006 11:55

If ds had a nasty cough that was making him sick during the night, I would keep him off the following day, or at least till his cough clears up abit, so as not to pass the cough around the school at least.

sandyballs · 28/09/2006 11:56

She was sick a couple of times during the night (before midnight), and then got up ok this morning and ate two big bowls of cereal. Wasn't sick this morning.

OP posts:
sandyballs · 28/09/2006 11:57

But if you kept them off for coughs and colds surely they would hardly be at school during the winter months

I think I am a far better judge as to whether your dd could go to school, peering at my screen and tutting, than a real life mother who knows her child.

mell2 · 28/09/2006 12:12

at oliveoil

I think we all now our dc and no-one would send them in if they thought they were really ill or contaigous.

Thomcat · 28/09/2006 12:13

oh sorry, thought she was sick this morning becasue of coughing and a big breakfast.
Oh - scrap all previous posts - Sandyballs you're evil!

lizziemun · 28/09/2006 12:18

Sorry sandyballs, didn't mean for you to get all this agro, i just wanted to point that dd had a bug where she was sick in the night, but seemed ok during the day, eating playing etc.

Sorry again

mymama · 28/09/2006 12:25

Even if not a bug I would have kept her off. Being up through the night she might be tired and need the extra rest. I am phobic about being sick though and know I feel total crap for whole day if I have thrown up.
