Spotting a few days before period starts

Hi. I've been getting a bit of slight spotting thinking my period is about to start then nothing for 2 or 3 days till it starts properly. I'm almost 47 but my periods are still regular. I'm wondering if it could be hormonal. My smear is up to date but I'm not sure if I need to go to the doctor. Anyone else had this?

I have had this too for perhaps the past year. I am not worried about it but do find it annoying.

I am the samr age as you.

Yep, it started when I hit 30.

The GP told me not to worry at all unless I had other symptoms and as long as I was up to date with my smears.
