Anyone know- Can I get day 21 blood test done at another surgery?

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help with this please?

GP has suggested day 21 progesterone test to check if ovulating as TTC for a while and periods a bit wonky.

I'm v keen to get it done this cycle but I'm away from home for a few days around day 21 of my cycle (other end of the country).

Do you think it would be worth contacting the local GP where I'll be staying to see if they would collect blood for the test? I guess it would mean them sending the sample specially to the lab listed on my blood test form, which they might not want to do. Or could they just stick it in the post?!

Has anyone had any luck with this kind of thing?

Thanks in advance!

Trouble is this will end up at a lab at the other end of the country so unless they agree to post it on its a problem. They (the other surgery)wouldn't be able to send the sample to your local lab as there is no way to do that and I have to say I don't think this is the sort of thing we would be keen to do. How regular is your cycle a day or so either side of the day 21 doesn't really matter. Otherwise you need to wait until next month.

Thanks for your reply - I suspected it might not be possible. Cycle not v regular at all but am using ovulation tests which might help me work out the best timing. I think I might actually try and move my trip as really want to get these bloods done this month.

I think you can get progesterone tested privately, just googled it yesterday and there are companies where you can order a finger prick set, take some blood at home and then send it off for analysis. Not sure how reliable these would be mind, but might be a better option than postponing your trip?

If your periods are irregular you need a day 2 test done also to compare your LH level against that of your FSH level. LH and FSH are very important as they start the ovulation process; if these are awry ovulation can be affected.

I would also avoid using OPKs if periods are consistently irregular as well.
If you have been trying to conceive for nearly 12 months now you should be referred to a subfertility unit.

The day 21 done a couple of days later would not make much if any difference to the overall result.
