Me again ...
You won't believe what has happened in the last 48 hours ... Had an absolute shocker!
After getting a bit better from her tummy bug at the weekend, DD started coughing on Monday.
The cough turned into an obviously blocked nose and then on Tuesday she was struggling for breath and screaming constantly.
So, I took her to the doctor on Tuesday afternoon. He thought she might have bronchiolitis and said to bring her back on Wednesday to see how she was.
So Wednesday afternoon I duly took her back ... but would have done anyway as she was really poorly by then ... rapid breathing, high temp ...
So .... he sent us to the hospital. After a couple of hours of observation and the doctor saying that she had a nasty virus she suddenly decided to develop some spots ... scary ones on her hand that spread as we looked at her.
So it all kicked off ... poor little mite was subjected to all kinds of nasty tests (Lumbar puncture included) and we were admitted.
We spent last night in the hospital and DD was under very close observation. This morning the initial bloods came back clear as did the lumbar puncture tests ... so nothing nasty, thank god ... and they have gone back to initial diagnosis of 'nasty virus' that is causing respiratory problems.
So, we came home this morning ...
DD is still coughing and spluttering ... but with the help of saline drops in her nose and paracetamol she is coping .... just.
A paediatric district nurse will come and see us tomorrow ...
I am exhausted ... drained ... and am feeling very very low ... I really don't need this ...
It has been a shocking 2 weeks ...

Wow, what a horrible time you have all had. Hope you can have lots of sleep and all recover. What a shock for you. Your poor dd and poor you!

mears · 08/04/2004 10:41

Poor you Ghosty - I can totally empathise with. DS2 was very poorly when 6 months old and deveoped meningitis so I know what you have gone through with the tests. Thank goodness she has had the all clear as far as meningitis is concerned. Hopefully she will start to get better soon. Is she on antibiotics? I know it is a viral infection but sometimes they are prone to get a bacterial infection as well because of being so poorly. Hope she gets better soon.

emmatmg · 08/04/2004 10:44

WideWebWitch · 08/04/2004 11:33

Oh Ghosty, poor you. I hope she picks up soon, it's scary when they're so little isn't it? Life will get better, it's got to. Thinking of you.

suedonim · 08/04/2004 17:56

Poor you and poor babe, Ghosty. At least your were alert to all that was going on. I hope your dd is on the mend - take care, all of you.

sunchowder · 08/04/2004 18:13

My sympathy Ghosty! It just feels so never-ending sometimes and then having no control makes it so much worse. I hope the nurse comes with the best advice for you. And I do hope your dd gets better immediately. Massage and touch do wonders. Try to massage just under her clavicle on both sides ever-so-gently and hopefully this will ease her couging and help her to rest. Sending much love. Sunny
