Itchy scalp driving me to distraction - could be due to underactive thyroid. Any advice?

I was recently diagnosed with underactive thyroid, but not a particularly serious one and I'm on a very low dose of thyroxine. Trouble is, my scalp and back of neck are unbelievably itchy. I know I shouldn't scratch but it's driving me to distraction and I am scratching off bits of my scalp... The only thing I can compare it to is having a head and neck covered in mosquito bites. My hair is brittle and skin is flaky.

Anyone had the same? Is it a side effect of the thyroid condition or the medication ? Is it possible the dose is wrong? Any tips to decrease the itching? Thanks

I don't know much about thyroid problems, but I keep coconut oil for any hair or skin problems. Friend's recently found it better than prescription. Aloe Vera can help too, and is unlikely to make it worse.

Could be a combination of things with the thyroid issue.
Removing gluten/wheat/dairy could help so could Changing hair dye (if you dye)
still not exactly sure what caused my itchy scalp but removing gluten/dairy from diet and stopping using gluten/wheat containing/derived products on hair/scalp/body helped a lot. when I started reading the labels to see what was in stuff I had a keratin spray that contained hydrolysed wheat protein - that had set my scalp itching to the point where I was going demented and making it bleed. It settled down almost straight away after I stopped using it. there was some helpful stuff I found by googling coeliac beauty products if you want to. A year on I have gone back to my original hair dyes at the hairdresser, I just take a portion before now and no problems
