Gastritis? Nausea and feeling full after small meals, knawing pain in stomach

I'm not sure if I have gastritis/stomach inflammation. Basically I had 3-4 glasses of wine on an emptyish stomach the weekend before last, I was sick at the end of the night and also the next day. (Not used to drinking much and perhaps it was because of the empty stomach) I hardly ever binge drink and eat very healthily. Now I have a knawing pain/slight burning in my stomach on and off, feel full after a small meal and feel sick after eating some stuff- I felt so sick after a bowl of yogurt the other day. Trying to eat blandly at the moment but wondering how long will this last and is there anything I can take to get rid of it?? I'm so keen on getting back to eating what I want but just can't seem to do it at the moment.

I've suffered from gastritis and stomach ulcers in the past few years (at the grand old age of 26!) and I couldn't keep anything down apart from bland meals when my gastritis was playing up. I highly doubt the alcohol would have caused any tummy issues but alcohol can certainly cause them to flare up (as I learnt the hard way!). If you can is nip to the GP and explain your symptoms, they'll probably be able to prescribe a protein pump inhibitor which lowers the amount of acid your stomach makes. They do help and usually if it is gastritis or ulcers they need to do an endoscopy first to confirm which can take a while so you'll need something to help while a diagnosis is being found. If you can't get to a GP Zantac or OTC ranitidine used to help me and it was easy to pick some up if my prescription was running out, it's a H2 blocked (I think) which helps control tummy acid.

You have my total sympathy!! I lived with it for 2 years and dropped 3 stone (misdiagnosis by my GP, I don't want to scare you!) and it was hell. Feel better soon!

tiggy2610 thanks for your reply. Well the doc has given me Omeprazole so hopefully that'll help. He didn't order any tests or anything, just felt my stomach and said my oesophagus might be inflamed. That's it. I hope he's right and there's nothing more serious going on. The weight loss is worrying- I'm already 7st 10lbs (according to BMI measurement, underweight) and I was just about to start eating more to put on a bit. I couldn't physically lose 3 stone! Hopefully it's not as severe as an ulcer...fingers crossed.

Omeprazole was a life saver for me when gastritis was flaring up, I'm sure it will help you get some relief! Fingers crossed you're back to normal soon Smile

I was going to say you probably need something like lansoprazole or omeprazole -but you have some. Hope it helps OP.
