Dental Abscess and swelling after antibiotics?

I saw my dentist at his emergency clinic yesterday morning because if severe dental pain affecting the right hand side of my face. He diagnosed an abscess after a couple of X-rays and gave me a prescription for amoxicillin and an appointment for a root canal on the 22nd.

I managed to take a whole days doses yesterday as I saw him early but yesterday afternoon I also developed pain in my sinuses on the right and as of last night my top lip started swelling and I know look like a duck! The pain is still terrible and paracetamol and ibuprofen aren't really touching it (allergic to codeine).

Is the swelling likely to be caused by the abscess or is it possibly a reaction to the amoxicillin? I'm guessing I should be right back at the dentist this morning whatever?

Swelling wouldn't be a result of the antibiotics, it would be the abscess increasing and no where for the pus to drain to.

You may need it drained for you, so yes, best call the dentist & explain what has happened.
