Hi, my dd is 9 days old. Her stump fell off in her nappy yesterday and today her tummy button is red and a bit oozy. Bits of dried blood are coming off. Does this sound normal? Should I clean it in luke warm water?

No, it doesn't smell. According to Babycentre website if she seems okay and the area isn't swollen or smelly it's okay. Shall I give washing it a miss then?

thanks everyone. No powder so will give it a little wash and dry thoroughly I think.

If your health visitor is still around she should be able to give you some powder - DSs stump took well over two weeks to fall off and got a bit oozy - powder is fabv.

Agree with Tooticky. Clean with cotton wool and cooled boiled water. Make sure dry afterwords. Perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.
