I've been experiencing low level but uncomfortable low down pelvic pain for around 9 months on right hand side. Repeated visits to various GPs who told me it was down to anxiety, or advised physio. Over the last couple of months the pain has got worse and more constant, and now radiates to my lower back, hip, thigh and so back I went, and the latest GP very reluctantly referred me for an ultrasound. She warned me rather sternly that I shouldn't expect them to find anything and she was only referring me due to the length of my pain. Have been feeling very very low with the pain and uncertainty and had a very bad month getting anxious and a bit depressed - stupidly googling and now know way too much about other scary conditions..

Had ultrasound yesterday and the Dr who did it told me straight away I have 2 hernias, 1 on each side. I have no obvious lumps or bulges externally. I think they are just above my bikini line, low down in groin. He was surprised I wasn't getting any pain on the left. At first I was relieved to find that there was a real cause for the pain and it wasn't just all in my head, which I had started to wonder about because I was getting so frantic with it. Today though, rather pathetically feeling very scared of surgery and whether I will end up with worse pain after than before/ nerve damage in that area..
I'm 28 and haven't had children yet, just got married a few months ago.. this was supposed to be blissful newlywed time, but instead that has been firmly off the table and I have been miserable and not getting out much either, and uncomfortable sitting down at work.

Can anyone reassure me who has had this op before? I'm especially worried about whether this might affect me being able to get pregnant.. wasn't looking to do so immediately but in the next couple of years...
Thanks so much for any advice you can offer. I know this is minor and I am probs overreacting..

DD had two inguinal hernias - one on either side. It is a very minor operation and done in daycare. She was six when she had it done and was back to normal very quickly.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, will try and remember that if a 6 year old can manage it, I can too...
