Hi all

I've just got back from hospital having had my perineum cut and restitched (my dd is 8.5 months). Apart from aching like crazy and being honestly the most humilating experience as done under local as b/feeding, I'm keen to minimise risk of infection - I had one last time. Can anyone recommend anything i.e. stuff to put in bath?

Thanks

How horrible for you. when i had my first i had a lot of stitches after 3rd degree tear, and midwife recommended lavender oil in bath as is supposed to be excellent for healing - i used it obsessively - it worked for me! Good luck.

I was in your position when ds was 8m too, Pook. Big commiserations - not nice at all. Rinse yourself with running water after you use the toilet - for lack of a bidet I perched on the edge of the bath and used the shower. I used a few drops of lavender and teatree oils in the bath, plus sitting in warm salty water a couple of times a day. Also a valley cushion - this time around your bits haven't been stretched to oblivion, which is why you can feel everything. And don't forget those pelvic floors, doing the exercises brings blood to the area, and promotes healing.
