I think I have a hole in my tooth :(

I thought I had the sharp kernally bit from some popcorn stuck between my too back teeth so I was playing with it to dislodge it.

Tonight we had bolognese - so no sharp bits - and again it feels like something is stuck. I've been playing with it to get it out. Ive brushed my teeth to ages but now I think that its not that somethings stuck but theres a hole and its the edge of the hole I can feel.

Is this possible? I have regular 6 month check ups. I think my next ones due in about 6 weeks. Can a hole/cavity develop so fast? My teeth are generally in good health although my gums are receding.

Get it checked ASAP. I had this happen and I left it. Mine was a tiny bit of filling that had come out though. I was going to see the dentist at my next appt. I developed an abscess! OMG was it painful. My face swelled. I had to take 3 days off work and I am NEVER off work. The dentist tried 2 different antibiotics and no luck. I was on all sorts of painkillers (the codeine made me sick though). Anyway, tooth had to come out and I now have a gap at the side of my mouth.
Make an appointment...

Possibly you have chipped it on something hard-ish (I did this once on a crisp, I'm not kidding, a CRISP). If you get it looked at now it will probably just be a quick filling and that'll be it. If you leave it, it could deteriorate quickly as the tooth will be vulnerable.

And yes cavities can develop within 6 months. Again this happened to me (can you tell I have the world's best teeth?!). But it wasn't a biggy and a small filling was all that was needed.

have you tried floss in case something is stuck there? Brushing doesnt always get everything out

EdwiniasRevenge · 20/08/2014 21:56

It's between my wisdom tooth and the one next to it so I'm not sure I can get floss in there (I'm crap with it) but I have tried one of my interdental brushes.

I will make an appointment for next week when the kids are back at school.

I have very thin floss (there are different thicknesses) and can get into the very small gaps between my teeth. Thicker stuff gets stuck and shreds
