Need to hear postive experiences/outcomes. Feeling very despondent.

Thanks for asking, fox. Saw specialist last week. He's trying to fathom out what is causing both upper and lower abdominal pain/upsets. Blood results were normal although helico. bacter result was inconclusive. Having endoscopy this week. IBS symptoms continue. I'm on a trial gluten/wheat free diet for 2 weeks. Not yet noticed a transformation.
Good to hear that your hoarseness has improved. Hope you don't need omeprazole for too long.

Oh no . I know wheat free can take a while to kick in - if it is a wheat/gluten problem (something like coeliac disease), it can be that your insides take time to recover from being exposed to wheat for such a long time.

Hope the endoscopy goes well. At least that is pretty definitive - they should be able to see exactly what is going on inside.

When are you having it done?

jalopy · 10/10/2006 18:19

He's going to take a biopsy to check for gluten allergy. I read somewhere that although it takes months for the bowel to recover from the gluten intolerance, usually people feel much better and have more energy within days of changing their diet. I'm secretly hoping that it isn't a wheat or gluten problem, I love my bread, pastries, pasta, pizza, etc.

Hi jalopy, how did the endoscopy go? hope you are ok.

jalopy · 17/10/2006 18:08

Hi, fox. Sweet of you to remember! Endoscopy was fine. No ulcers, nor hiatus hernia although stomach valve not fully closing but I kind of guessed that already. Still on Zantac. Helicobacter result negative. Awaiting biopsy result for possible coeliac disease.
I'm more bothered by my lower bowel symptoms at the moment. Despite gluten free diet and mimimal dairy intake, still suffering from episodes of back pain, intermittent bloating, pain and diarrhoea. Always feel dodgy in the mornings and vaguely weak in the legs. All investigations so far are fine.
Might start another IBS thread later.

Just reading your thread with interest because i am sufferring with similar.
Cant get a doc. appt. but he is leaving me out a script tomorrow.
Basically have woken up with indegestion several mornings over last year but nothing terrible.
This weekend i took lots of Brufen for toothache and felt like my stomach was on fire !
Last 48 hours the pain comes over in waves, like really really awful hunger pains.I hear my stomach gurgling and the pain spreads in a huge wave up to my breastbone.
Gaviscon works but only for about an hour-have finished a bottle.
Does this sound like an ulcer ?
Have a crap eating regime-basically no food all day, red wine and huge meal pm-so if i have its my own fault.
Also doc metioned endoscopy if it persists-saw a few as a student nurse years ago-no way !!!!

foxinsocks · 18/10/2006 12:47

oh jalopy - while I'm very pleased that they have found nothing horrid in your innards, I know in a way it's a disappointment that it's not something that's easy to fix. I really hope you get some relief soon.

mooshy - that's how my nasty acid problem started! Hope you don't have an ulcer!

mooshy · 19/10/2006 09:15

Foxinsocks-
Gp says i have a duodenal ulcer.
On tabs which are fabulous-lansoprazole and also had the blood test for the H thingy.
Anyone else found lansoprazole makes them really sleepy ?

Toots · 24/04/2007 21:21

Just want to bring this thread to light again. Hi Mooshy, I've been on Lanzaprozole for almost two years daily (15mg) for hiatus hernia. I'm having another breath test in a few weeks to see if H pylori is still present/has returned.

I'm getting concerned about being on long term medication though, it doesn't feel right. Interesting you said it made you sleepy, am often v tired. I'm going to try and use some natural remedies and big diet changes. Will let you and anyone else know how it goes if anyone's interested...

Just looking at this makes me think my throat problems are digestion related -back to the doc for another appointment: does it make your throat feel very sore but not look very inflamed?
