Pain in ribs when breathing in - could it be Lupus related?

I've had this from time to time over the years. Previously it has lasted only 2-3 seconds. It is very painful and I feel like I can't breathe. Last night in bed, it lasted far longer - about 30 seconds. I was just thinking that I would need to wake snoring DH, when it disappeared as quickly as it came.

It feels like there is a bubble of air trapped between my lung and my rib age and the pain won't go until it disperses.

I have had discoid lupus for 20 years, but I was recently told that I had slipped onto the bottom end of the spectrum of SLE with joint problems amongst other things.

I'm just wondering if this symptom could be Lupus related as I am aware that lung issue can form part of the symptoms.

Any other ideas as to what this is are welcome!

I think this is a very common and totally harmless phenomenon. I've read about it in mn before but can't remember its name. Feels like a bubble like you say and I have to breathe through it. I get it often and it is occasionally slightly longer lasting than other times.

I would go and checked out as you are right pleurisy can be a complication of the Lupus group of diseases.
I have another disease in the Lupus group and have been advised by the Rheumatologist that I should always be checked out if I hav pain on breathing.

Thank you. I have an appointment with my consultant next month, so I will discuss it then. I would like to know what it is called though!

I think it may be precordial catch syndrome

That is it! Thanks Bigpaws!
