Panicking, normally like clockwork. 38 years old but worried it's cancer. I know it could be a lot of other things but worried none the less x

Peri menopause? Stress? So many things it could be. Cancer is just the least likely, I think.

LEMmingaround · 09/08/2014 11:33

Firstly are you up to date with your smear tests?

Secondly - you would more likely experience breakthrough bleeds than a full period.

Thirdly - stop worrying. If your cycle is still buggered next month see your gp but it is VERY unlikely to be cancer.

Cancer very very unlikely reason for one early period! At 38 you could be entering the peri-menopausal state where things can get a bit more erratic for the next decade. You are young for that but it could be the reason as it can start ten years before menopause. Or you could be under stress, all sorts of reasons. Hormone imbalance being the most likely. I agree that if your cycle remains up the creek then go to your GP who will check your hormone levels etc. Don't panic!

Don't worry, out of all the likely reasons cancer would be way down on the list.

Thanks all.
I'm getting hot flushes too so hormones seem likely.
I am up to date with smear tests yes.
Xx

Oh no, thats so unlikely. Its far more likely to be hormonal. Dont worry! I am 37 and in the last year things have gone very weird cycle wise!

hellymelly · 10/08/2014 13:19

Hot flushes +anxiety+ irregular cycle means almost certainly your cycle is up the creek. Sounds like peri-menopause so go to the gP and get her to run a check on your FSH, progesterone and oestrogen levels. You might benefit from some natural progesterone, or seeing an accupuncturist or herbalist to balance everything out again.

It's easy to say but do please stop worrying.
Official advise is about bleeding between periods and pain isn't it? hormone imbalance is the most likely to cause this but do make an appt with the GP.

I'm 36 and roughly 18 mths ago my cycle went a bit mental. I was always every 28 days but my period started coming on days 21-24. I had bloods done and a smear - nothing was found. I started taking vit B6 to try and regulate my cycle as I was/still am trying to conceive. It worked but I took it for too long and made my testosterone too high

Thanks all, I really appreciate the advice.
Love mumsnet! X
