Anti-itch cream thats not calamine for DS1 with an allergic reaction?

DS1 has an allergic rash all over his face, neck, arms and legs. Doc says its a reaction to something rather than anything infectious. He's on full-dose piriton and could do with something to calm the skin and stop him scratching it. He can't have calamine. What else could we try?

He's basically one big red itchy blob above the neck right now bless him.

We got something called Aristocort for DS for hives. Nutraplus is great for itches ( insect bites etc) but might not be enough. Hope you get some improvement soon, sounds awful for you all

Looks like you can't get it in the UK but it's this

JuniperTisane · 05/08/2014 12:13

Thanks. Looks like its not available except in oral paste form here. I wonder if the doc will prescribe a steroid? Haven't resorted to hydrocortisone cream yet as its on his face.

Anthisan is usually good for stuff like that.

MrsBungle · 05/08/2014 12:14

I find anthisan good for relieving itching.

Aureocort is the ointment but you can only get it by prescription. Hopefully the other suggestion helps. Bit remiss of the GP not to prescribe something already I think.

DS used to have hydrocortisone on his face for eczema but it was 0.5%.

Dd gets Eurax cream on prescription for hives/itchiness
It seems to be available over the counter. I just googled it but don't seem to be able to copy in link

Picturesinthefirelight · 05/08/2014 12:27

We have used Eurax for chickenpox & allergic reactions in the past. It's much better than calamine.

JuniperTisane · 05/08/2014 12:27

Ah! Eurax he can definitely have! He's had it before in small amounts without any problem. Anthisan we've never tried.

Thank you everyone.
