After having dd I have had the heaviest periods and cycle that has been between 10 to 21 day cycle. It has been so bad that I couldn't take a chance going swimming with dd. Also so heavy couldn't leave the house.

Eventually went to see doctor on 1st Aug she suspects fibroids but said I need ultrasound to confirm.

Guess what hospital sent me letter appt is 29 Jan 2007 is that normal. i'm so worried in case it might be something else, mainly because had IVF treatment to have dd so thinking some thing wrong...

Anyway, everyone keeps talking about hysterectomy's when I mention fibroids. am really worried please reassure or share experiences pleas

Go back to GP - Jan 07 is ridiculous if you are bleeding like that. Hysterectomy isn't always necessary for fibroids. How old are you? How old is dd? Fibroids is only one possibility. Depends on your age, time since birth of baby etc.

dd is 25mths periods have been like since they came back 18mths ago. Didn't get around to doing anything because I went back to uni amd just want to get back to normal!!!

I'm 39 and have been told that getting preggers is a cure for fibroids, doctor also said this...doesn't help me much as we had to have IVF because of dh's really low sperm count.....

Phone up and ask for a cancellation. If you make it clear that you are prepared to go in at short notice, you may be able to get seen sooner.

Has your GP actually examined you to see if your uterus is enlarged? You can get very heavy bleeding due to hormonal imbalance. Have you had a blood test to see if you are anaemic? It is possible that your GP doesn't know that you are being offered an appt in Jan 07, perhaps if you went back again she might be able to hurry it up. This new "choose and book" system is supposed to help people get seen quicker!

Yes my doctor said she could feel that my uterus in enlarged(so can I).

She has put me on a hromone tablet called Northesterone, which has really helped with the bleeding. I think it is a progesterone substitute.

I have spoken to doc about 2 weeks ago but I have made appt for this friday as we really want to try for another child and I am 39(just)

i have just been trying to find threads about this, i have gone back to the doctors twice keeping on about this, the first time she didnt even examine me brushed my problem off, just prsecribed the same tablets as you. i get really bad periods for about ten days and they stay the same heaviness for that time i went back second time because i thought my iron levels were low i have now insisted on having a scan as the pain is getting worse than labour at times i am now going to wait up to 16 weeks for a scan, this is beacsue the primary care trust now has to pay for a the patients op if they get refered from the gp and then the follwoing tests reveal an op is needed they then have to fund the op this is why they are leaving long waiting lists hoping the problem may go away or the drugs may help beforehand, its really annoying as i still havent been examined and dont know what the hell is wrong with me my problems all started after they removed my tubes after my last baby eight months ago
