Hi all,
Hoping someone might have an idea as to what might be wrong with me.
I'm due to go on holiday on Monday and I can't get a doctors appointment, it's getting a lot worse!

I have a constant pain/ache just below my ribs on my left hand side. The best way I can decribe it is as if theres a ball/lump just under my ribs. If I lie on my stomach it feels like I'm lying on a tennis ball and I have to move. I can't feel anything with my fingers and neither can the doctor, but I feel as if theres something inside IYSWIM.

Last time I went to the doctors I mentioned it because it was becoming a little more painful. Its been there since just after my DD was born (DD 4 now) but was more just like a feeling, didn't really hurt and I didn't worry about it. He didn't seem to know what it could be and gave me Omeprazole which I took but they did not seem to make any difference.

The past week this ache has gotten worse and now I also have a nipping/stabbing pain everythime I eat or drink. This morning the pain was so bad I was almost sick. It only lasted a few seconds but was very very sore. I also get a little bit of nipping pain when I stretch upwards. Today however, everytime I have eaten something I have had really awful dirrohea, a few seconds after I've started eating. The pain seems to go away after I've been to the toilet but then the ache starts to creep back and so it begins again.

I am normally very healthy, can eat whatever and have no allergies etc. I have just finished a course of two antibiotics for a tooth infection so not sure if they could be to blame...I'm thinking it's unlikley though as I've had them both before and they have never bothered me.

I'm 32, take no other madications apart from the contraceptive pill and I'm mystified! It's worrying me though as I've never had this kind of pain before. I feel generally unwell. The doctor didn't seem that interested last time I spoke to him about it and can't get an appointment for 2 weeks.

Any ideas?

You need to go to A&E now.

Sweetmotherfudger · 01/08/2014 21:33

I agree a&e.

Baddderz · 01/08/2014 21:46

Yep.
Off you go.

lorneylou · 01/08/2014 22:07

Theres no way I can get to A&E now, have no car and two little ones upstairs sleeping. I don't feel that bad now, pain seems to have eased off and i've had a drink and cake something to eat, just an unsettled stomach kind of feeling. Is it possible it could be some kind of bug?

MrsChickPea · 01/08/2014 22:10

If it's been there 4 years... it can't be a bug.

chockbic · 01/08/2014 22:13

IBS or chron's?

TeenageMutantNinjaTurtle · 01/08/2014 22:14

Is there anyone who can watch the children? It really sounds like you need medical attention...

NormHonal · 01/08/2014 22:18

Google gallstones and look at the symptoms.

twentyten · 01/08/2014 22:21

Call nhs direct. Sure they will send you to a&e. Take care

lorneylou · 01/08/2014 22:23

This stabbing pain hasn't been here for that long though, or the diarrohea, just the past week. Doc didn't seem concerned at all last time I mentioned it to him.
The first thing I tought of when I felt the pain was gall bladder, my mum has had very serious gall bladder problems for years but apparently the pain would be on the other side.
I really can go out, my DH is working away and I have a friends DD here too as well as my own as she is away. I think I'm gonna try and get to see someone tomorrow, I can't go away like this Sad

It sounds like gallstone pain, although you are right that gallstones are on the other side. I agree you should go to A+E tomorrow morning.

EverythingCounts · 01/08/2014 22:35

If you really can't go now, then get someone to have the kids for a few hours tomorrow and go to A&E. Do you have travel insurance? If not I'd consider buying some tonight before you see a doctor, just in case.

Baabaapinksheep · 01/08/2014 22:37

Sounds more like ibs or something to me, gallstone pain would be on the other side and don't think it would cause diarrhoea whenever you eat.

If the pain gets really bad then phone NHS direct, otherwise try and see a doc tomorrow.

I have gallstones and the pain was always in the middle not on the right hand side. It could be a stomach/duodenal ulcer- have you identified when this happens? Is it random or after a heavy meal etc. It could be IBS as you mention symptoms after eating.
would be good to have it checked out before going on holiday and I suppose the only way to do that will be to turn up at the ED. They may consider a scan or endoscopy.
You symptoms may subside and you could then go on holiday and demand test on your return.
Have you tried Buscopan for IBS to see if this makes a difference?#Hope you get it sorted out. Such stress just before a holiday that you have no doubt been looking forward too.

Watching with interest as I have a sore right shoulder and now I feel sick when i eat and it's boring through to my back. I have really not been taking care of myself, drinking wine practically every night since my 3 rd child, been eating crap and lots of fizzy drinks and less fruit and veg or exercise than normal. Planning to see the doc next week. I get ulcerative colitis also but last time I went, the put me on Zantac for. Month without proper investigation.

Millionaire you do sound like its gallstones. OP not so much.
