Can the pill make you feel any/all of the following???..

tingly breasts ( and massive ones at that)
extremely irritable ( to the point of talking to dp through gritted teeth)
no libido (really, I would rather stick pins into my eyes)
fat ( put on 2 stone in 3 yrs)
emotional ( crying at the Sharon Osbourne show??)

during the week that I have my break off the pill, I feel fine- but have really noticed this week that my whole behaviour has changed.

Does all contraception make you feel like this? Im considering changing to something else but if they all do it I may just force Dp to have a vasectomy ( there is more chance of me winning the X factor than this happening.)

YEs to all. That is why I stopped taking it!

LiliLaTigresse · 14/09/2006 10:55

sounds like you might be on the wrong pill
I use Trinordiol and have no side effects

nailpolish · 14/09/2006 10:55

i hated the pill, any artificial hormones actually

thats why i got a copper coil

foxinsocks · 14/09/2006 10:56

yes it can

I would try changing the brand of pill first (make sure the GP gives you with a different type of the progesterone-like substance in it because there are lots of different ones). It may be that you are v sensitive to the one you are taking but may not be to another one.

tiredemma · 14/09/2006 10:57

Im scared of the coil- know three people who have got pregnant on it. To get pregnant at any time during the next three years would be a disaster.

Lilia- thanks going to look that one up on the net.

tiredemma....wot pill r u on? I've tried loads of different ones, and am on Ovranette at the moment...my boobs have got bigger in a matter of like 3 weeks, and my emotions are all over the place....had researched the pills i've been on before and found that loads of women have suffered all the symptoms u described...maybe a change of brand would do the trick....there are so many different pills out there

Wilbur · 14/09/2006 11:15

Def got the no libido here when I was on the pill. From that point of view, it was a spectacularly effective contraceptive.... When I last went to the family planning clinic, they recommended a mirena coil and said it was incerdibly effective, the best thing they had for preventing pregnancy - have you talk to your doctor about this? The hormone dose it gives is really tiny and only localised so you don't have loads of it swilling round your system

tiredemma · 14/09/2006 11:16

Im on Microgynon, the weight gain is my main gripe, I eat exactly the same as I always have- no more, no less. I do more exercise/walking than ever before- yet im at my heaviest.

My boobs wouldnt look out of place in a porno- they are massive and Im so irritable.

i have to find something because this is making me feel awful.

most gps give the cheapest pills first, if yo complain they will try you on others. i DID find a pill that worked, after a couple of tries.

tiredemma · 14/09/2006 11:18

I have recently changed my Dr Wilbur and hav'nt discussed it yet, but Im definetly going to.

Does it hurt having the coil fitted?

tiredemma, there are newer pills than Microgynon (I think one of the cheaper ones so it's often prescribed first) that are supposed to have less side effects. It may be a case of trying another for a few months to see if it makes a difference (and then possibly trying another to see if it works).

bunny75 · 14/09/2006 11:21

kickassangel is absolutely spot on...my gp virtually told me so....Microgynon30 is usually the first pill they perscribe anyone who meets a standard criteria (under 35, non-smoker, no history of thrombosis/high blood pressure, etc). it was the first pill i was on, and i had to come off it as i had dreadful headaches.....years on and i still havent really found the best pill to suit me, but if you kick up enough of a fuss, they have to prescribe you an alternative

3littlefrogs · 14/09/2006 11:23

I think the mirena coil is great, but I have seen some posts on here from people who haven't got on with it at all. I guess everyone is different. I could never tolerate any pill because of all the things you mentioned. the mirena is as effective as sterilisation, and contains a fraction of the hormones that the pill does. It lasts for 5 years, and is worth a few minutes of discomfort in my opinion.

bunny75 · 14/09/2006 11:27

3littlefrogs....did u experience a lot of bleeding/spotting? the reason i am on the pill is because of heavy/painful periods and my gp tried to sell me the mirena coil, saying that eventually i'd have virtually no periods at all....but have read the opposite on some sites....some women getting lots of breakthrough bleeding
