Declining 8 week vaccinations for my baby - experiences?

I don't want this to be about whether you should or shouldn't vaccinate your baby. I have chosen not to and I'm looking for experiences from others who have done the same. What did you say? What did the doctor say? Did you discuss vaccination once the child was older or flat out decline all vaccines?

Anti Vaxxers make my eyes bleed and my brain hurt.

Vaccines are the reason that smallpox was wiped out.

My son has a close (unvaccinated) friend. He is mortified that his parents made this choice and can't wait to be 16. He is studying a lot of science, is very bright and knows full well that the world of woo and nonsense is putting others at risk.

My mother had Polio as a child. She missed a year of school and is still very lame (now compounded by age) as a result of her illness. Two of her classmates died, so she was considered lucky. Her father was a doctor and would have got her any vaccinations going, but there weren't any back then.

Now, when you can stop your own children, and other people's children from a REAL, scientifically proven risk, why would you ignore that in favour of an IMAGINARY risk, or one based on poor science?

Madness- really - madness.

Just wondering those of you who harp on about herd immunity if you have had your children vaccinated against chicken pox, which can cause terrible complications with compromised immune systems, or is it just the free ones you like?

That poor little German boy :(

Can anyone else remember the little boy whos mother didn't want him to have full cancer treatment, or anti nausea medication a few years ago? The mind boggles.

Well, exactly expat. But everyone knows that dentists just love to take teeth out so its probably just another big nhs scam. said nobody sensible, ever

My younger DSis nearly died of whooping cough on 1981. I caught it at playgroup and gave it to her. My parents still can't talk about that time without breaking down and they were tild after the event that if she had been any younger, she would have probably died.

My parents were increadibly nervous when I had to take DD into nursery to pick up DS when she was a newborn and often came to stay on days when he was there so they could look after her.

A dear friend also lost her 5 week old baby to meningitis two years ago

I'd love for all the non-vaccinators to meet her

Jackieharris I don't believe it's 'futile! To try and protect immune compromised children from unvaccinated children. Coming from the point of view from my own daughter, who has Lukemia and barely any immune system from chemotherapy id rather not chance exposing her to unvaccinated children. However 'futile' that course of action may be.

I do think, that once the child is old enough, you should let him/her make an informed decision if you have not chosen to vaccinate. I could never even have a pet that wasn't vaccinated against tetanus - the one thing that's everywhere.

Lovelychops are you also worried about chicken pox?? The vaccine is available but costs about £200 so very much doubt the children your dd comes into contact with would have had it, even if they are vaccinated to the hilt with all the Free Ones xx

What is it that you think people are ignorant of? Seriously.

To the poster who asked about chicken pox vaccines. I didn't know a vaccine was available for this "mild" childhood illness. Both my children had it and were very unwell. My daughter ended up in hospital. Both have now recovered save for scars. This was over Christmas. When I found out there was a vaccine I informed all of my friends and advised them to get it. If I has known of it I would have done it and saved them both the horrendous pain they suffered.

The reason the chicken pox vaccination isn't on the routine schedule is because it isn't highly effective. Also, chicken pox, while it can have serious complications, is not as damaging as measles, pertussis, rubella etc.

I love vaccines because they're free. They're totally useless and bad for my children but they're free so way hey!

My baby hasnt had any vaccines. I was in two minds when she was 6 weeks old, and after speaking to the doctor, that was it for me. I asked my doctor about the vaccine and all he said was he has never read the vaccine insert or learnt about the dangers. The only thing he knows is that because of vaccines, childhood illnesses has gone down. But he hasnt felt the need to look into any independent reports regarding the link between vaccine and autism or any other chronic illnesses. And that I am better of speaking to the nurse who adminster the vaccine as she might likely read the vaccine insert. He was also unaware that there were other germs, and toxic ingredients inside the vaccine. He was horrified that there was aluminum inside the vaccines. And said they know that aluminum is a toxic chemical for an adult, let alone it being injected into a newborn baby. We left it on the basis of, your the parent and we are lucky to live in a country where we can choose to vaccinate or not vaccinate. But as a medical professional, he is targeted to promote vaccines, otherwise he will be in touble. From further research, and seeing the difference in my childs health and happiness compared to vaccinated babies, I would say I am happy I questioned vaccines.

Are you writing yourself a little play? Is is entitled "Bollocks I made up one day.."?

I had a lot of childhood illnesses - measles, whooping cough, mumps, scarlet fever etc. The one that put me in hospital was chicken pox . I know a child that died from it and one who is unable to have vaccinations and was seriously ill in hospital with it.

It really takes a special combination of arrogance, selfishness and a belief in bad science to not vaccinate your children.
I'm guessing those of you who don't vaccinate are not medically trained and have done your "research" on Google. There's not much I disagree about this passionately and I'm generally a great believer in live and let live but anti vaxxers really wind with me up with their ignorance and arrogance.

Do the non-vaccinators also refuse vaccines for themselves when they go abroad?

My uncle was so anti vaccine that my cousins didn't get vaccinated. Then his two eldest (only ones born at the time) caught polio. His daughter died and his son was in hospital for almost a year and will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. He had the 3 who came later at the front of the queue to get their vaccinations.

That's the problem with vaccinations today. People have forgotten what these diseases do to children. Yes there is a risk with vaccines but it's a drop in the ocean when compared to the risk of the disease. Whenever I see this topic come up all I can see is visions of this:
