DS is nearly one, and I'm on my second post-pg period.
I breastfed full time to around seven months (alongside weaning, obviously) and we still have one bf a day on average, so not a surprise that it's taken this long to return.
My first proper one started 3rd of June, lasted 8 days and was very heavy. Needing to change sanitary protection every 2-3 hours for the first 3 days, then carried on for another 5, with a fairly steady flow.
I knew that the first period after a baby can be epic, so I chalked that up to that. But now I'm on round two. Started on Saturday and still really heavy - yesterday had super tampon and sanitary towel and within 4 hours I had flooded through both (I actually remember a gush), leaked through underwear, tights and onto dress (fortunately didn't get through other side of the dress as was at a work function).
Before I was pregnant, my periods lasted 3-4 days, maybe 5, start to finish. This would be fairly heavy on day one, moderate day two, couple of days of brown blood and gone. This was after coming off the pill for over a year.
I had a coil fitted 12 weeks postnatally - ie 9 months ago) because I cannot bear the thought of returning to hormonal contraception.
I understood periods would be heavier and more painful (and that's the other thing - I never had noticeably painful periods before, but now I get a cold digging crampy feeling on and off for days, lots of cramps around ovulation as well) - but never this bad.
So. Is this normal for post-pregnancy? Is this normal for coil? Or is there drama afoot?
I have a week off next week and was hoping to get a GP appt - but I don't even know if the bleeding will have stopped by then.
(Sorry it's long. And TMI)
