WOke up yesterday a bit croaky, didn't feel ill or anything. By noon, totally lost voice. Best I can manage is a whisper in someone's ear, literally and that is such a strain it's painful.

Got 3 boys 2, 5 & 7. The volume in our house is usually off the scale. SInce yesterday a quiet calmness has descended. For some reason, they are also talking in a whisper or communicating with sign language.

I'm not gonna let on when it comes back.

It will come back I take it? Anyone else experienced this? I don't feel at all unwell, tho this am My throat is a tiny bit sore and bit of a runny nose. I don't need to go to docs, just sit it out, right?

silence is golden.

Yeah 'fraid you just have to leave it. Sounds great though! Hope you feel better soon. Unless you get white spots on the back of your throat it sounds viral so antibiotics won't help. If it the pain gets worse there are loads of gargles and sprays you can use to anaesthetise it.

monkey, impossible to do I know but don't wisper. It puts even more strain on the voice and will delay the return of your normal voice. My boss lost her voice (v common in teachers! ) and had to see a speach therapist. His advice total rest of the voive, and drink lots of fluids.

that's great, hoping it'll last a good few days. would like to phone mil, but apart from that enjoy the break

ooh, thanks mb, good to know. you're my font of all knowledge atm, lol. good, even more peace then..
I wonder if the lots of fluids can imnclude buckets full of tea or is that bucket fulls? Or stick with boring old water I suppose is the sensible response.

anything wet that isn't booze!

Infact wet and warm will ease the poin. Just not boiling hot.

Must go chalk face calls....total rest mind!

drooling over tents and sleeping bags doesn't strain my vocal cords.

I lost my voice completely out of the blue two weeks ago! It was great - the same as with your family. Everything quietened down, people whispered to me, the kids did what they were told to do (either by me gesticulating or whispering at them) without any arguing at all.

It took three days and then - damnit - the voice came back. But it was lovely while it lasted!!
