DD allergic to milk - any advise on how to give MMR?

My DD is 6months and had a bad reaction to cows milk (given to her in rice pudding when weaning). I am still breastfeeding her so it was her first taste of cows milk. She has eczema too so I was kindof looking out for a reaction. Anyway... she's having blood tests on Friday for various things, eggs, nuts etc. I'm absolutely dreading it. They will take it from her hand.... and I have to get her to the hospital very early and on my own as DH is looking after our DS. It's going to break my heart I know but I think it's necessary to get her tested - does anyone disagree?
Also, I've had such mixed messages from various friends, doctors, homeopath... Does anyone have any experience of a risk of giving a child with an allergy to milk the MMR vaccine? The homeopath has told me not to give it to her at all or if I do to ensure it's the single vaccines. We looked into MMR loads when our DS was due to have his and we decided to give him the 3in1. Just because DD has an allergy and quite bad eczema, would giving it to her the same way cause problems (unless she's allergic to egg as know that's in the 3in1)? Help.. I'm so confused about everything. Think my brain may explode. Just want to do the right thing.

never noticed dominicconnor post, who is he?

Jimjams2 · 12/09/2006 23:04

Really Lou? Do a search, he's been around for a while. Doesn't seem to like women, arts grads or catholic priests!

I thought he worked for Computer Weekly or something, but I prob have that wrong.

Heathcliffscathy · 12/09/2006 23:09

god lou. have a look at some of the political threads esp those about israel/iraq.

he sometimes verges on making sense but never quite makes it. he invariably offends.

dc anyone that argues as you seem to that 'science' and 'scientific method' are somehow inextricably linked to truth isn't very wise imo.

soapbox · 12/09/2006 23:10

Gosh are all us little women supposed to bow down at the feet of your overly superior thinking and analysis DC? Too delicate to think for ourselves are we?

Anyway, I was extremely fortunate to have a homeopath who also practiced conventional medicine as well (GP) was a wonderful lady (sadly now retired) who managed to cure my DDs chronic urticaria which even intravenus steriods had failed to clear with one magic powder! I'm no expert in quantum mechanics, but I do have excellent observational skills!

Hey, ho! Each to their own!

And for the OP - there is no specific link between a cows milk intoleranced and MMR, however at the time my children were little, we were advised by the local vaccination guru that children with a number of allergies may be at more risk from the combined vaccine. We chose singles, just didn't fancy even a miniscule increase in risk

Gillian76 · 12/09/2006 23:11

Heard egg allergy can be a problem but not milk.

DD2 has milk allergy and had MMR at GP surgery with no ill effects.

Heathcliffscathy · 12/09/2006 23:11

jimjams, i'm surprised you haven't said on here that a propensity to allergies and other autoimmune conditions in the child or in the direct family are reasons for thinking hard about vax.

so milk allergy whilst not as directly linkable as egg is relevant to a decision about how and when to vaccinate....imo

Heathcliffscathy · 12/09/2006 23:13

cross posted soapbox

lou33 · 12/09/2006 23:13

no thanks he sounds dull, i will pass

soapbox · 12/09/2006 23:13

Sorry, so many typos in my last post!

I'm very tired - too much work and not enough rest and play atm!

Jimjams2 · 12/09/2006 23:14

no no no soapbox- observational skills are not enough! Which incidentally is why I (and every person I know who uses homeopathy) uses it. I tried it- thinking it couldn't do any harm- and asking no more of it that that- and it worked. hey ho etc, so we continued to use it. If it stops working I'll stop using it.

Heathcliffscathy · 12/09/2006 23:16

ditto jimjams.

even my sceptical husband asks me to take ds to 'the gnome' as he calls our lovely homeopath when he is in any way under par, and that is based on his observation skills

Jimjams2 · 12/09/2006 23:19

sophable I never tell anyone not to vaccinate The hard evidence for allergies and vaccination is still lacking- it's too complicated to predict- there are models- such as the Th2 one- but really they are still massive over-simplifcation.

I'd advise anyone to read around the subject, but there's no black and white, and ultimately if you choose not to vaccinate you have to be happy with that decision - which will only come i its your own decision.

Too many variables anyway without knowing an entire family history. For example I will probably give ds2 and ds3 tetanus and measles (if they haven't cauught it by adolescence) one day.....

Jimjams2 · 12/09/2006 23:20

I call our homeopathy our witchdoctor, and I call our chiropractor out witchdoctor 2.

Jimjams2 · 12/09/2006 23:20

homeopath- I need a spelling remedy!

Heathcliffscathy · 12/09/2006 23:22

i wasn't telling anyone not to vaccinate!!!!!!

bad enough living with my own decision!

Jimjams2 · 12/09/2006 23:22

ha ha know the feeling!

Heathcliffscathy · 12/09/2006 23:23

i love you btw

feel free to barf

Jimjams2 · 12/09/2006 23:25

(aside) I keep coming across people who haven't vaccinated at all- nothing to do wiith me- it;s not something I really talk about in RL. Just stunned how many don't for all sorts of reasons.

The one friend I have who has vaccinated her children had to because they are adopted, but she isn't vaccinated as her brother was vaccine damaged, and she says she'll tell her girls not to vaccinate any of thier children.

Always surprises me because until the ds1 fiasco it didn't occur to me not to.

Jimjams2 · 12/09/2006 23:26

oh thank you! I need to be loved today so I won't barf I love you too!

mummamoo · 13/09/2006 19:54

Hi Jimjams2 - what happened to you ds1?

Sorry... just looked up what RL means. Understand if you don't want to talk about it.
