BUNNY75 · 12/09/2006 15:34

have heard about this from a friend...my periods are really heavy, and although the prospect of having shorter and less painful periods is tempting, i am concerned it will leak......is it only ideal for light-moderate flow?

laneydaye · 12/09/2006 17:37

Really considering getting a mooncup before my next period, i felt really thick yesterday for not knowing what 1 was.
today i went in my local chemist and they didnt know what 1 was either.
Feel much better..xxx please tell me they are easier to insert than they look...

Overrun · 12/09/2006 19:02

laneydaye - I really recommend them despite the problem discussed further down the thread

poppiesinaline · 12/09/2006 19:47

very I seem to be the only one who is having the opposite problem. Used my mooncup for 7 months now and AF is getting heavier, longer and more painful. Last month it lasted nearly two weeks (3 days of which I had to change every 45 mins) So much so that this month I gave the mooncup a miss and reverted back to tampons and (probably complete coincidence) but AF was lighter, shorter and less painful this month . I dont know whats going on!

dazzlincaz · 12/09/2006 20:40

BUNNY75 - Go for the mooncup - the fact that you have heavy periods just means you will be into profit quicker as it will save you a fortune in pads and tampons

poppiesinaline - how old are you? Seems from Anorak's recent thread that there are a lot of us in the 40+ group who are experiencing what you describe. Basically, the mooncup makes life a lot easier for many women, and seems to cut down a lot on the pain and cramping, which can only be a good thing. As for the horrendous AF, I know exactly what you mean - have you been to your GP? You may well be anaemic and definite need some medical investigation as to what is going on.

dazzlincaz · 12/09/2006 20:42

definitely, not definite - sorry

trinityshiftingherleatheryarse · 12/09/2006 20:45

I WANT A MOONCUP

trinityshiftingherleatheryarse · 12/09/2006 20:46

s'not fair

laneydaye · 12/09/2006 20:48

order one here im getting one too....lol

QueenEagle · 12/09/2006 20:50

Dior (and others) - I found that twisting very slightly at the same time as squeezing gently to release the suction when you remove the mooncup helped immensely with stopping the feeling like you're having your insides vaccuumed out.

If you are leaking during the day then you perhaps need to change it, say, an hour earlier than you normally would. I found for the first 2 months I emptied it far more often than I needed to just to make sure. Subsequently I seem to have got it about sussed. I love my mooncup - can you tell?!

trinityshiftingherleatheryarse · 12/09/2006 20:50

pg and then will be bf and last time my periods didn't come back until I had stopped and that was 9 months. only stopped casue dd2 wanted to so i probably should wait to buy one, it's going to be probably a year till I have a period

not fair I want to try it grrrrr

QueenEagle · 12/09/2006 20:52

Oh, forgot to say.

I too have found that my periods seem shorter and end quite abrupbtly too rather than dribbling on for a couple of days at the end.

laneydaye · 12/09/2006 20:55

I cant wait.....(sorry trinity)

cant belive im posting this... exited about a bloody mooncup (no pun intended)

aitch71 · 12/09/2006 21:10

i bought one today... looked FOREVER in Boots and couldn't find it so had to ask a lady. she brought both sizes, pointed at DD and said 'was THAT a vaginal birth?' lovely.
anyway, for those of you going looking for a mooncup in the shops, the packaging is very discreet. Looks like a bottle of eau de cologne or something, all flower photography on the pack. i am just about to boil mine...

Dior, bear down a bit whilst sitting on the loo to get it out. I promise you, if you've been doing your pelvic floor exercises, it will descend enough for you to easily grasp the base between your index finger and thumb.

Squeeze and pull. It'll release the suction and come right out.

monkeytrousers · 12/09/2006 22:43

I never boil mine. A wash with detergent every night and dishwasher at the end of the cycle. I'm a slut, I know...

QueenEagle · 12/09/2006 22:46

I must be waaay down the slut scale then (or up, whichever way you look at it) - I just give mine a quick rinse in between changes and then chuck it in the dishwasher when dh isn't looking when I've finished!

MatNanPlus · 12/09/2006 23:00

I place mine in a small avent bottle with sealing lid and 1/4 milton tablet while i shower in the morning, i use the solution for 2 cleans then make up fresh, before soaking i clean with an old electric toothbrush as have 'meaty' loss

I find it can overrun and laughed at the average loss as i lose that by day 2 out of 10 tho days 7-10 are a once a 12 hr clean and then a splodge in the bottom only, only used pads before as bits wrong way to utilise tampon but find with mc less cramping and no external irritation.

I found it easier to remove before #2 as it moving about was distracting and that is poor pf before thinking of children, must be in sympathy.

Love the dishwasher idea tho beware tomato stains!!

monkeytrousers · 12/09/2006 23:02

Oh, QE, you reminded me about the rinses imbetween. I do that to

expatinscotland · 12/09/2006 23:15

i boil it a couple of days before i come on.

expat, that sounds very efficient and well organised! I just get mine out of the little drawstring bag, blow the fluff off and away I go!

But then I am such a slattern!

monkeytrousers · 12/09/2006 23:28

oh, you are QE!
