Hi lovely ladies. I am new to this thread and am due to have a hysterectomy with ovaries removed on the 5th jan. Background: I've just turned 40 and have been suffering from endometriosis for as long as I can remember. Had 4 laser laporoscopies, tried the pill, mirena which hasn't stopped my periods, mirena plus mini pill (still had periods) just had a course of zoladex (awful side effects!). Literally tried everything and nothing seems to work so consultant has said this is the last resort. Really struggling to maintain a normal life. Am rarely in work - surprised I still have a job to be honest!
I am so lucky that two of my operations resulted in me being able to get pregnant and now have a 5 and 2 year old.
I am so anxious about it but at the same time I want my life back! I know you shouldn't google but the only stories I have read have been horror stories and so am hoping to get more positive stories on here. Will be reading all 4 threads before jan!
Any advice welcome. Is the recovery similar to a laser laporoscopy? My consultant will be doing keyhole surgery. Xxxx

Hi Northlondonma you mentioned Zoladex and side effects - can you let me know what they were? I have asked people if they know what they were but nobody could tell me - not even my doctor!!

Thanks

Hi onetwothree. Are you about to go on zoladex? I had one with hrt so that I would not feel menopausal. It had benefits and drawbacks. The benefits were that it stopped my periods and so no monthly cycle. Side effects were that I felt constantly nauseous. Like early stages of pregnancy and felt dreadful. Really dreadful. Couldn't move at certain times because of the nausea. My consultant said it would calm down but it didn't. He also said not everyone gets this as a side effect. I also got terrible joint ache. In my neck, shoulders and fingers. Looking up on doctor google these are quite common side effects. I am off it now since last week and still feeling a bit crappy. I had it to see if a hysterectomy would be a good idea. But as this is the last resort and have literally tired everything else I am now booked in for the op on the 5th jan.

Hi North was supposed too have zoladex about a month before my hysterectomy, but as no one could tell me what would happen and the side effects I cancelled the operation! Still waiting for it to be rebooked, thanks for the information :)
