Hysterectomies - advice and hand holding over here PART FOUR

AtSea1979 · 10/07/2014 07:59

New Thread...
Over here for the hand holding

One in five women in the uk will have to have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives

Come and join us if you are waiting, pre-op, bleery eyed on the ward or recovering afterwards or just need a bit of advice.

Oops, haunted phone there, sorry

I'm assuming he does realise the actual procedure and mechanics of what you've just had done?

Ok, full penetrative sex is off the menu for a while (that's a whole other thread and mind-set) but to sit up, crouch, keep in one place under physical pressure must be quite uncomfortable for you apart from anything else.

I would search out some literature on hysterectomy and medical procedures and give it to him to read

along with a box of tissues and maybe some arnica for his bruised arsecheeks

AtSea1979 · 10/07/2014 14:02

He said he's read it but as far as the physical side is concerned he's holding out for best case scenarios where my libido etc won't be affected but I don't think he fully understands that I should be doing nothing, at all, because of the lack of external scar I guess.

Please don't get me wrong, he's been wonderful, I'm just finding it hard work, pressure, to work at it. When tbh I just want to be selfish!

OP posts:
JennyOnTheBlocks · 10/07/2014 14:10

It's not about being selfish though, this is about giving your body time to heal and adjust.

Crikey, you can't even shit properly yet and he wants a shag?

Show him this thread, most of us can barely get in a bath, I'm really angry for you.
He needs to back off, he's the one being selfish.

notapizzaeater · 10/07/2014 14:47

We need a like button !

marymoocow · 10/07/2014 19:34

Exhausted doesn't even cover it! First day of doing absolutely everything (except going to work). I have had to call in a favour to get the kids out to their gang show rehearsal tonight though. Couldn't quite stretch that far. Certainly feeling sore and achy now. Not looking forward to doing it all again tomorrowSad .

AtSea1979 · 10/07/2014 21:55

Aww Mary I know how you feel. I'm a single parent and its hard trying to recover and do everything at the same time.
My DP tries to help out but it's not enough and I'm exhausted and clearly delaying my recovery but needs must.

Rubbish nights sleep, have noticed post-op that if I over-do it in the day I can't sleep at nightHmm . One DC packed and off on camp now, other 2 off later after school. Me? I've already had one nap this morning and predicting it won't be the lastGrin Grin .

JennyOnTheBlocks · 11/07/2014 12:15

Mary, I'm finding that too - had a 'back to normal' day on Wednesday, crap nights sleep

Good luck to your camp-bound DC, and enjoy your nap

I'm off to the hairdressers very soon for a feel-better-and-brighter colour and cut, can't wait

marymoocow · 11/07/2014 13:04

glad its not just me then Jenny. Enjoy your haircut Grin . DH intent on spending our child free weekend getting the house around to put up for sale. Think he's on his own with that one...

AtSea1979 · 11/07/2014 18:54

The hot flushes appear to have kicked in. That's not helping me sleep. Want to go a few months without HRT so I can see what menopause side effects are so I know what the medication side effects are.

OP posts:
notapizzaeater · 11/07/2014 19:32

Oh no that's not good atsea. I had a couple of hot flushes the first week and I've been fine since with no there's. Hoping I don't need it.

Got my letter today confirming I had ovarian cancer grade 1 so no further treatment needed.

AtSea1979 · 11/07/2014 22:05

That's great news Pizza, obviously not the bit were u had cancer but that u beat it

OP posts:
marymoocow · 12/07/2014 16:58

Persuaded DH to chill out today, so feeling loads better. Enjoying a child free weekend, had lunch out and potter around. I have let him cut the grass thoughSmile . Sitting in the garden now enjoying the sun.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 13/07/2014 11:36

A bit of a relief for you then, pizza, nice one

Almost 8 weeks post op now and I have moments of feeling better than I have done in months! Having bursts of energy and enthusiasm, it's great.

A think about HRT, has it affected the size of anyone elses norkage?

notapizzaeater · 13/07/2014 11:38

Not on hrt yet, please tell me it hasn't in increased your boobs, I'm already of "K" cup....... Smaller I could cope with

JennyOnTheBlocks · 13/07/2014 11:42

Well, I know I've put on weight and lost muscle tone, but yes, my breasts have definitely grown more than I thought they would. . .

Hopefully it's just fat and once I start fasting and exercising again they will shrink again - FF is plenty for me, K would stop me running I reckon

ScarlettOHorror · 13/07/2014 12:47

Ah, here you are :)

Nearly seven weeks post op now! Back to hospital this week for biopsies, a pelvic wash and to have my omentum removed via keyhole surgery. Won't be a great loss I'm sure as I didn't know I had one until three weeks ago.

Surgeon says I will be ok to go on holiday on 31st as long as I don't climb any mountains. No plans to.

notapizzaeater · 13/07/2014 13:13

Scarlett my surgeon did the wash and removal,of that fat thingy at the same time for me, hence I need no follow up treatment. I read up on it and some doctors in USA are removing it to stop TUPE 2 diabetes, it improves your insulin resistance apparently !

AtSea1979 · 13/07/2014 19:56

Hi, I'm now 2.5 wks post op and I think I'm going to have to give in and go to hospital tomorrow. Been bleeding fresh blood (about the amount of 'normal' period) for 7 days now. I was hoping it'd dry up itself, surely if I've pulled a couple of internal stitches it'd have clogged up by now?

OP posts:
JennyOnTheBlocks · 13/07/2014 20:35

That doesn't sound good, AtSea

Let's hope it's something very simple, I'm glad you're going to get it seen too

notapizzaeater · 13/07/2014 20:46

Better safe than sorry - hope it's something silly Grin

AtSea1979 · 13/07/2014 20:49

Hope so, I'm just a wimp at the thought of them routing about down there!

OP posts:
TheOriginalNutcracker · 13/07/2014 21:45

notapizzaeater · 13/07/2014 22:20
