New Thread...
Over here for the hand holding

One in five women in the uk will have to have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives

Come and join us if you are waiting, pre-op, bleery eyed on the ward or recovering afterwards or just need a bit of advice.

Hi Blueberry, I had a laproscopic and they were ready to discharge me the following day. I insisted on staying, had no problem sitting around, trust me!

Thanks for your replies. I'm in for three-four days. I'm not in the uk. I've bought a load of books, have the in-laws taking the kids as they are young and won't understand. No pets. Dreading it Hmm

marymoocow · 03/08/2014 16:43

house sold, New house bought :-) Can stop tidying now and enjoy my last few weeks of rest! Still feel sore internally if I do too much. No intention of doing that again for a bit Grin .

AtSea1979 · 05/08/2014 21:59

Great news Mary, exciting times ahead. Put your feet up before the packing begins!

properly fucked off today Sad

saw my GP who has advised any training/strenuous exercise for another 3 months, and she's sending me for further tests - this time for thyroid function as well as hb levels, she doesn't like the way my blood has been behaving during all the random tests i had done over the course of my surgery

i'm still needing a sleep during the day (not just a rest), so i suppose that could mean something else is still going on.

i'm definitely feeling the benefit of not having periods now though, and i'm realising every day how much constant pain i was putting up with!

how's everyone else doing? mary, congrats on the house stuff too Thanks

AtSea1979 · 06/08/2014 15:01

Aww Jenny, that sounds rubbish Sad

My backache has completely gone, only a few days ago I couldnt even bear the cream being squeezed on to it and now its perfectly fine, as though nothing happened, very odd.

Aww jenny that's crap - I'm pissed off for you

Mary - that's brilliant.

Need to talk about sex ! Had 8" incision abdominal vertical 7 weeks. Took cervix so stitched up internally. Was supposed to be be going to doctors tomorrow but he's on holiday and they have only just realised Angry next appointment (cos I'm off as he's back) in 3rd September. When is it safe to have sex, was waiting for him to say it's ok ? ( although still too sore on my tummy for much at min)

Annoyed as well as my gp won't give me hrt till he's signed me off SadSadSad.

notapizzaeater · 07/08/2014 23:57

Sorry atsea missed you, perhaps you just had a trapped nerve and you've freed it ? When do you start your job ?

JennyOnTheBlocks · 08/08/2014 07:26

Try a bit of DIY first, pizza, and see how that feels?

notapizzaeater · 08/08/2014 10:58

GrinGrin DIY is fine jenny GrinGrin it's the sticking it in bit that worries me Hmm

JennyOnTheBlocks · 08/08/2014 14:51

have a few glasses of wine like I did

Have you had a rummage yet?

I went to check my coil strings and had forgotten [eejit] but was surprised how fine it was

gingeme · 10/08/2014 18:29

Good afternoon all. How is everyone ? Just a quick update on my situation. I'm going to have an endometrial ablation in roughly 8weeks. I was told I wouldn't be considered for a hysterectomy as I have not tried a coil or ablation first Hmm But I have been assured by some ladies that have had an ablation it's the bees knees Grin

AtSea1979 · 10/08/2014 19:57

Managed to get out of starting new job. On hols at the moment.
I'm 6.5 weeks now, haven't been brave enough for a rummage yet.

AtSea1979 · 10/08/2014 19:57

Can you feel the back?

OP posts:
JessyJames · 12/08/2014 15:09

Can I join please? Going for a keyhole hysterectomy on Saturday, seeing the gynae nurse tomorrow to tell me what to expect.
I work from home making phone calls and typing reports, how long do you think it will be before I can start again, only do 2 days a week?
I'm 52 and reasonably fit!

JennyOnTheBlocks · 13/08/2014 08:29

I couldn't feel anything, AtSea. But it's functional.

GingeMe, ablation is very successful when it works, but if it doesn't it doesn't if you see what I mean. There is no middle ground I understand. My surgeon explained it to that it's also no good if you have endo, because only the inside of your uterus is treated, same with the Merina coil.

Hi there Jessy, I'm 47 and was very fit before my surgery, but am still struggling with fatigue even now, 12 weeks after. Mentally I'm raring to go, but I get so exhausted very quickly. I did have total hysterectomy via abdominal incision, I wasn't suitable for keyhole surgery, but from what I've heard from other women, my lengthy recovery isn't really exceptional.

I reckon it takes at least 2 weeks for the GA to leave your system, then depending on your personal pain threshold you will have meds and their effects, so I'd give yourself at least a month off and then reconsider.
Good luck

I

gingeme · 13/08/2014 08:39

Thanks Jenny. Lets hope mine is one of the ones that work eh ?. Apparently I don't have endo as was discovered on my internal rummage !!

JennyOnTheBlocks · 13/08/2014 08:42

If they're sure they're sure Grin

Have you got a date yet?

gingeme · 13/08/2014 09:13

No the gynecologist just said in about eight weeks . That was last week !

AtSea1979 · 13/08/2014 09:14

Hi Jessy, I had keyhole and I'm 7 weeks post op now and feel back to normal. I'd say with your job about 2-4 weeks depending on how tired you feel.

ScarlettOHorror · 13/08/2014 21:31

Saw my consultant today, I have so far had total hysterectomy and omentectomy. He said that I had had cancer in the womb and one ovary, which I knew. The ovary had burst during the hysterectomy, the omentum was clear of cancer. CT scan was clear.

He said I was stage 1c, there were no signs of cancer anywhere else but he advised I had chemo anyway. I have to see a chemo specialist in September.

I was hoping so much that he would say no chemo but I know I am really lucky to not have any spread...

notapizzaeater · 13/08/2014 22:07

Aw Scarlett at least it's just preventative. Mine was grade 1a so been told I don't need any further treatment, but I'm back beginning September and I'm going to push for a ct scan.

notapizzaeater · 14/08/2014 22:22

Woohoo, I've had my first bath Grin. Not having another for a few weeks, it really hurt to pull up after laying down Angry

JennyOnTheBlocks · 15/08/2014 10:38

Sorry you're not out of the woods yet, Scarlett, but hold onto the fact your cancer has been cured by surgery since it hasn't spread. Sending love and hugs for you Thanks

Notpizza, well done on the bath, I've been advised to get up from lying down by raising one knee to waist height and holding underneath your bent joint with both hands then sort of rocking up to a sitting position. Takes the strain off the abdominal muscles until you're ready to use them.

JessyJames · 15/08/2014 10:55

Thanks Jenny. Off to pack my bag for the 7.30 admission tomorrow morning.
