Does this sound like gallstones/gallbladder related?

Hi ladies I'm wondering if anyone else has experience of these?

For 3 years now I've had what I thought was indigestion, sometimes it would just be an irritating pain other times I'd be doubled over in agony. I'd describe it as though if I could be sick id feel better but I can't be sick. To begin with I was given lansoprazole which didn't help and to date I've had omeprazole, ranitidine, bascopan all of which did nothing. The only thing that soothed it was drinking peptic liquid from the bottle. Finally my doctor is sending me for a scan to see if I have gallstones after telling him I am now experiencing some sharp pains under my ribs. It can be particularly bad after my main meal at night but can occur any time of day before or after eating. I can go days/weeks without an episode then it starts and it can be every day for a week or more.

My last really bad episode was last year when I was pg it felt like a vice round my ribs, it woke me up and nothing alleviated it. By the time I got to hospital it had stopped and nothing more was done. I've had various blood tests over the years all of which have been normal.

It hasn't affected my appetite apart from at the beginning where I felt full quickly but that passed after a while and I eat normally now. No weight loss.

Also with this current bout I've noticed a dull ache in my back which started as lower pain then moved to the middle of my back for a whole day and at the minute my shoulders are so stiff and sore I don't know whether this could be related? I also feel quite breathless. I'm 26 with 2 children and doc says I'm too young for stones?

I had bloods taken yesterday the biochemistry ones are back today but the other ones aren't so doctor hasn't looked yet.

I just wanted some other experiences as I have got myself so worked up and upset that something else is going on. Thank you

I'm going to get my blood tested on the 17th, I suspect its gallbladder related. Ive had issues since I was 17, they were rare back then. After DS2 It hit me hard, actually during my pregnancy it started up. I can't do many physical activities. Carry the baby, shopping, cooking and cleaning can trigger this pain in my upper abdomen. Its nearly dead center or to the right. I usually just go lay/sit and be still for however long it takes for it to go away. If i get very hungry say while I'm out shopping, it will stay all day long. I've learned to ignore it for the most part, but the other day I was in the car in agony so I called up for an appointment and got one that day. The pain can be mild or absolutely sickening if I don't eat or rest. I hope we both get it sorted!

Sounds like gallstones to me. I had them at 27 so not too young! I had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks after a scan diagnosed them.

Misslgl88 · 03/07/2014 16:59

Thankfully I haven't had an attack since the one last year when I was pregnant but it's weeks of burning in the pit if my stomach (or in the middle anyway) that is driving me crazy. I'm the same in just trying to ignore it but some nights the burning is so bad I can't sleep and it becomes hard to ignore.

The other night I had a strange burning down my right ribs too first time I've had that

When it all started I was with a different doctor and they just kept brushing me off as indigestion/stomach ulcer/ h pylori which I was tested for. I went to hospital a few times the first few attacks but kept getting sent home told nothing wrong etc so I just accepted it I guess. It's only been since I changed doctor and started mentioning it again the doctor is taking notice, basically I don't think I've ever fit the 'textbook' group for gallstones

I don't think I typically fit all symptoms either but I have a friend who was fobbed off for 5 years before she was told it was gallstones. She said the biggest thing for her was the heartburn/indigestion/uncomfortable burning pain that she had

Just a quick update I had my appointment to get bloods done and tummy examined at doctors, it was uncomfortable when he pressed in the centre and off to the right (actually made me feel sick when he did that). My bloods came back normal and I'm now just waiting on appointment for a scan. The other night I had burning down my right ribs never had that before thought it was an attack starting but it didn't turn into anything just burning in pit of my stomach.
Anyone else bloods come back fine but still have gallstones/gallbladder issues?

Hi I'm 23 and I have gallstones I'm in absolute agony I have pain in ribs into my side and my back. being sick doesn't help me I'm sick atleast 5 times a day everyday because of it I'm currently I'm on tramadol and paracetamol or tramadol and co-codomol (occasionally this as I have bowel problem to) so you are not too young.

I also have 2 kids experience back pain and shoulder pain this could've related I'm not sure as I'm getting tester for Crohn's disease which can also cause this.

But if you dr suspects you have stones tell them you need better medication tramadol works a treat for me

Hope you get answers soon.

littlejohnnydory · 04/07/2014 09:57

My bloods were always fine but gallstones diagnosed with a scan.

Proudmummytodc2 · 04/07/2014 09:57

Oh just seen about bloods I've had mine done 7 times before scan came back clear couldn't pick anything up apart from my bowel problems so bloods not always reliable

Misslgl88 · 04/07/2014 10:39

When I'm having an attack I try to make myself sick because it honestly feels like it would relieve some of the pressure but I just end up dry heaving it's horrible. I keep dreading another attack coming on as it's been a year so I just be due for one.

Anyone shed any light on why I seem to keep getting attacks then the weeks of burning in pit of my stomach in between? Are the attacks the stones passing or forming or something? Or is it irritation?

OP posts:
Proudmummytodc2 · 04/07/2014 11:06

An attack can be triggered by things you eat or drink such as fizzy juice or spicy food but anything can set it off I had an attack last night 5 hours it last it's an absolute nightmare. Dry heaving is a nightmare. If you just randomly get an attack it's usually because the gallbladder is irritated so it sets the attack off. You should go back to your GP and talk about other pain relief that may be better for you.

Misslgl88 · 04/07/2014 12:12

I can honestly say that it doesn't seem to be affected by what I eat anymore they just seem to randomly come on when they do. The rest of the time with the weeks of burning doesn't really correspond with anything I eat either. It used to be greasy fatty foods, pastry or spicy that set it off but not anymore

OP posts:
Proudmummytodc2 · 04/07/2014 16:38

That happened to my friend and she had hers took out as it was constantly irritated I'm getting investigated to getting mine out hopefully the scan gives you the answers your looking for I really sympathise with you the attacks are horrendous

Misslgl88 · 04/07/2014 19:41

So here I am another night and I can feel the burning starting in the pit of my stomach again, just before I was getting pains to the right when I was breathing in. I have been having the burning for the past week now and I'm so fed up I'm upset by it all and tired of living with it now, I'm so irritable. Should I go to a&e? But then they will probably fob me off again and send me home? Or can I demand to stay till something is done?

OP posts:
asutty5 · 04/07/2014 20:25

Could you call 111 and ask to have something done in an emergency kind of way? Or a&e with gallbladder pain and demand a scan. Im just waiting for my scan. I've lived this long with it

Misslgl88 · 04/07/2014 20:37

I've definitely been referred for a scan but god knows how long I'll have to wait, and I don't think I can put up with it much longer I've not had an attack yet but I've had the burning in pit of my stomach for a week and a half and I just can't take it anymore I've worried myself silly and I just want something done now but I'm also scared to go to a&e as the 4 times I've been in the past I just get made out to be making it up and sent home. Can I demand to be kept or seen to till it's sorted? I just want to know what it is after 3 years

Harry1603 · 04/07/2014 21:20

I went to A & E with mine. I'd never been to the doctor as I presumed it was just really bad indigestion but the last attack lasted so long I asked DH to take me to A & E. I had an ultrasound which showed the gallstones and the bloods showed I had pancreatitis. My gallbladder was out 2 weeks later.

If your pain carries on I would either go to A & E or a walk in centre.

I hope you get answers soon.

Misslgl88 · 04/07/2014 21:38

Thank you it just seems as though every time I go to a&e they take bloods and because they come back fine they just send me on my merry way regardless of how ill I feel

Well I eventually managed to get to sleep last night, woke up this morning feeling sore and tender still. Managed a cereal bar but didn't feel like I wanted to eat it at all
