Genital Herpes recovery - any specialists??

Hello. Had my first outbreak of herpes at the start of June - hellish. Been on acciclovir (sp) and saw the nurse on Saturday. She could not see anything any more and gave me the all clear. Partner and I had sex in the evening and it was sore so we stopped immediately. He found a tiny tear in the area that I had the sore bit (only had one sore bit) :( I am assuming this is because the area is new skin and therefore sensitive. He was gutted at hurting me, and I of course thought my sex life was over.

Anyway, does anyone have any idea how long roughly this may take to toughen up or any tips for healing?

Any input greatly received. Thanks.

Hi. The first outbreak is the worst. The skin will heal, and shouldn't be any more delicate. For now though try using condoms with lube to eliminate any friction Make sure the lube is water based though.
It will get better :)

It WILL get better, the first is horrible - then they get less so.

From extensive mumsnetting there seem to be two types of infection the huge and horrible outbreak and then barely a whisper afterwards, or a middling bad first infection and regular outbreaks that diminish over the years.

I have the second one, it makes you very mindful of being run down, not eating/sleeping properly, prolonged stress - as these can precede an outbreak.

When I had blisters, I generally felt a bit fluey - so not inclined towards sex at all, and it would take about a week to clear out. The outbreaks used to be quarterly ish but I now just get a "rumble" but no actual outbreak for years.

With healing, I'd say about a week after the blisters have dried out, I tried slathering every potion known to man, but a nurse took pity and gave me a tube of lidocaine 5% cream (from what looked like the 70's) which actually numbed the pain and let it heal.

Thanks ladies. Feel totally fine now. Taking acciclovar twice daily for 3 months as they recommended and then will come off and see what happens. I will make sure we use lube next time too. Don't want to keep tearing!
