intimidating dental hygenists

I'm not too anxous going to my dentist and I rarely have any fillings to be done. (It's a private practice, BTW). But he always sends me for a few visits to the hygenist and she upsets me a lot. She lectures me on not cleaning properly, although I try my best twice a day. Then she gets angry and says she despairs of me! I feel like a naughty child set to the naughty seat! Does anyone know of a pleasant hygenist in the Sutton area? Does anyone else have this experience?

Yes, Countrylady, agree totally! Mine is horrible (though not as bad as previous one). Lovely dentist, horrid hygenist. Think the nature of their job means they are going to be quite moody - scraping plaque off teeth for a living? Yuck. Got to book a visit soon - am dreading it after 4 months of severe morning sickness.

Yep, I think its part of their training to shame you into cleaning more thoroughly. Dentists are always more pleasant than the hygenist I think.

my old one gave me a lecture on how low my pain threshold was, and how would I cope giving birth.Actually the gas & air was just fine thank you. Now the dentist scrapes & polishes...he's much nicer.

Many thanks to all for telling me your experiences. Good to know I'm by no means alone in this! I have to go tomorrow morning to see her and I dread it. Cod, I'm in Sutton, Surrey. Judging by the above, it doesn't look too likely that many nice ones are around, does it?
