Distinct chemical/ metallic smell coming from DH

I don't smell it all the time but as regularly as a few times a week I get this smell emanating from DH. He isn't aware of it himself but it is very strong to me. Any idea what it could be?

I don't think he has a particularly great diet. I think he is semi following low carb but he doesn't understand it properly and kind of does his own version. He also doesn't eat that much veg, which is where he should be getting his carbs from if he is low-carbing. Therefore I think he is probably eating very high meat content and not that much of anything else. Could this be causing the smell? I wondered if the smell was ketosis but thought that came from the breath, whereas this smell seems to come from his entire body.

I'm a bit worried about him (although he isn't) and was hoping someone might have some ideas.

Thanks

Are you pregnant? Sorry if that's a silly question.
My heavy drinking ex had a vinegary smell about him

PS Carbs come from potatoes, pasta and rice - there is very little if any carbs in other veg.

I think that ketosis can come through pores as well. Does he drink alcohol?

Germgirl · 30/06/2014 12:06

Does it smell like pear drops or nail varnish remover?

eurochick · 30/06/2014 12:06

My dad has always had a metallic smell to me. Not low carbing and eats pretty well. No idea of the cause.

sebsmummy1 · 30/06/2014 12:10

I was thinking ketones too.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/06/2014 12:15

TheFuzz that is not true.

OP it does sounds like ketones.

Lonecatwithkitten · 30/06/2014 13:45

Ketones are very definitely sweet pear drops smell. Uraemia can be a metallic smell.
Vet with very sensitive nose I am able regularly able to diagnose both just by smell.
