Mole....appointment with Dermatologist - should I be worried?

Hi,
I went to my GP last week as I have a mole on my face, which I have had from birth but DH has commented over past few weeks that it looked bigger and redder, so I made an appt with GP. She didn't think that it was anything to worry about (also showed her a couple of smaller ones that I have which have tiny hairs growing out of) but she said she would send me for Medical Photography where a photo is taken and then a Consultant looks at it and decides if anything needs to be done. I got a call from hospital this morning to arrange an appointment which is in three weeks time (when I am off work). The appointments receptionist said that it was an appt to see a Dermatologist (not medical photography appt like I thought) as GP had noted several moles on my referral so they said that normally these are seen by a Doc as medical photography can only look at one mole or something? Should I be worried or is this normal procedure? Starting to worry now in case it is something serious and now I have to wait three weeks before I can see someone?

You have done the right thing getting it checked and I would probably prefer a face to face appointment, but obviously it is going to be an anxious couple of weeks.

I had a really funny looking mole removed ( halo around it and a mixture of different colours) many years ago and although they took a large margin of skin away around it, the biopsy results came back normal.
