aha

pneumococcal meningitis

OP posts:
CorrieDale · 05/09/2006 12:32

pneumococcal meningitis, I think. It's the new jab for under 2s. The emphasis is on meningitis rather than pneumonia.

auntymandy · 05/09/2006 12:36

think they do babies then under 2's and so on.

Iklboo · 05/09/2006 12:37

I waiting for my call to take DS for his - think the roll out was only released on Friday?

nailpolish · 05/09/2006 12:38

i wonder if dd1 will miss out then, shes almost 4

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 05/09/2006 12:45

they're not rolling it out in edinburgh till march, 2007.

fcking CHEAP bstards!

expatinscotland · 05/09/2006 12:46

DD1's age group - she was 3 in June - completely miss out on it.

Guess their lives aren't worth it.

nailpolish · 05/09/2006 12:46

omg expat

i have to take dd2 this week

i shall ask the nurse who dd1 is not getting it

(i like my girls to be treated equally!!!)

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 05/09/2006 12:48

She'll fob you off w/some tripe, NP. Not worth asking.

I had to move mountains to get it for DD1 and pony up privately.

The level of ignorance about this vaccine is truly mind-blowing and horrifically sad, especially in a country w/one of the worst health records in Europe.

nailpolish · 05/09/2006 12:49

ive never heard of it tbh (the vaccine)

mind you i have a crap HV who ive fallen out with numerous times

LOL @ tripe

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 05/09/2006 12:52

Mine talks utter mince, too. Like I'm a numpty and a moo for making her do her job.

The receptionist said, 'Well, I've never heard of that'.

It was all I could do not to respond, 'Of course not, you Edinburgh coo, you're an eejit.'

I had to lie and say we were going back to the US for three months and wanted to put DD2 in a fee-paying daycare to get the bloody vaccine.

And pay for it. Which I didn't mind.

auntymandy · 05/09/2006 22:31

They are doing it in age groups. Babies then under2 then pre school etc

agalch · 05/09/2006 22:54

Hey expat

I am not far away from you(livingston) and my dd2 will be getting it in a fortnight.Shes only 8 weeks tho and not sure when my dd1 whos 2 will get it if at all. Dont understand why in edinburgh you are not being offered it now?

daysoftheweek · 05/09/2006 23:16

auntymandy do you know if they are doing pre-schoolers? I thought just under 2s. Like np I too like mine to be treated the same!
Thanks

auntymandy · 05/09/2006 23:19

I asked about my 3 year old and I was told babies first then under 2's and so on. Thats why its the catch up!

daysoftheweek · 06/09/2006 00:21

Thanks
Good night

Sandcastles · 06/09/2006 00:24

It's given routinely here in Oz, as 2, 4 & 6 months. DD is 3, so she will have to bring her up to Aussie standards, as it were.

lupo · 06/09/2006 22:49

Hi ALL

I have just been reding up on the side effects of this jab and please do the same before you give it to your kids. Sounds worse than the MMR side effects.

You can go to the jabs vaccination forum and they have lots of info on there.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 07/09/2006 08:48

It won't be given to over 2's because they would have a completely different jab.

Under 2's get Prevenar, over 2's currently get Pnuemovax but only if in a high risk group; chronic medical condition, heart disease, lung disease etc. If your child falls into this category you can get Pnuemovax on the NHS.

CarolinaMoon · 07/09/2006 08:55

do you have a link lupo?

FillyjonktheFluffy · 07/09/2006 08:56

Take it the over-2s vax can be done privately, saggy one? Any more info?

Had pneumonia about 4 times as a child (might just concievably have been connected to smoking father+ shitey damp council flat...). Its a vile diesease, want to avoid that one!

Janbo25 · 07/09/2006 09:00

my son is currently 19 months do you think he will have before he's 2 or not?
