Has he been eating or drinking much today?

You mentioned an inhaler, what sort is it?

Janbo25 · 04/09/2006 22:21

let us know how you get on, please get further help if his temp is no lower

chlochlo · 04/09/2006 22:21

He's been drinking not eating. He has ventolin atrovent and seretide

Janbo25 · 04/09/2006 22:23

it's a good sign if he is keeping fluids down at least he won't get dehydrated

Flossam · 04/09/2006 22:24

Why not just phone NHS direct now? they will only call you back anyway - giving you time then to check temp.

nearlythree · 04/09/2006 22:24

My friend's ds was four. . No symptoms at all apart from a slightly high temp until too late.

Dd2 has been in twice this yr with suspected menigitis, once was a virus that just wiped her out, the second was a possible febrile convulsion.

We are over-cautious now, but it just isn't worth taking a chance on.

dinny · 04/09/2006 22:26

God, nearlythree, how terrible was he not unwell apart from temperature? poor little boy

chlochlo · 04/09/2006 22:26

Temp down to 37.9 underarm phoned nhs direct waiting for phonecall back dp gone to bed

OP posts:
dinny · 04/09/2006 22:29

when was his last calpol or nurofen, Chlochlo?

can't believe your dp gone to bed . did you wake ds or do temp in his sleep?

Flossam · 04/09/2006 22:30

Glad you have phoned. Make sure you tell them it was an 'axilla' (underarm) temperature.

chlochlo · 04/09/2006 22:31

He was still asleep just moaned a little bit last had nurofen at 9 45

OP posts:
liquidclocks · 04/09/2006 22:31

Goodness chlochlo, that's still high for an underarm temp - his 'actual' temp will be higher. Hope NHS direct ring you back soon. I'm off to bed so will stop hounding you but def think a check over in a&e is safest course. Hope alls ok overnight.

I'd be too if DH did that!

nearlythree · 04/09/2006 22:35

Glad you've phoned. Hope all is well, will be thinking of you.

No, dinny, no symptoms except off his food and slight temp until the rash came. Hours before he'd been playing as usual. Dd1 loved him so much, it's been really hard for her. Terrible for him, terrible for his family .

dinny · 04/09/2006 22:40

That is very high temp if he's had Nurofen an hour ago. Let us know what NHS Direct say. Hope all OK.

Nearlythree - that is just so terrifying and so devastating.

Flossam · 04/09/2006 23:02

Please update us whenever you are able chlochlo.

I would go to the hospital. Whenever I thought dd was really sick, it turned out to be the case. Generally something that needed antibiotics.

nearlythree · 05/09/2006 09:16

How are things this morning?

Janbo25 · 05/09/2006 11:48

Thinking of you, hope your ds is ok today, presuming because of no update you ended up taking him tom A&E?

chlochlo · 05/09/2006 12:58

Hi all nhs direct gave an assesment over phone cos he was settled decided to see how he went. Had a really bad night didn't sleep just moaning temp still going up to 39 rang nhs again at 5.30 they faxed my gp this morning been to see them and they just said something is brewing not sure what temp still really high got to see them again in morning they did mention something called slapped cheak???

My children have had slapped cheek. It is a mild viral infection - nothing to worry about I am sure. You will know if ds has it as hischeeks will go bright red, literally lookig like you have just slapped him across the face. Slapped cheek is also called Fifth Disease and Parvo virus (I think) if you want to google it.

hi chlochlo - just logged on to see how you were doing. tbh he still sounds really poorly, did someone actually physically see him this morning or was the slapped cheek comment from over the phone? Can I also ask why you have steroids for him, does he already have a medical condition?

chlochlo · 05/09/2006 17:02

Asessed over the phone by nhs direct seen by my own gp later she was the one who said slapped cheek. I have steriods at home for ds he has chronic asthma. He's not long woke up and seems a little perkier gp is willing to see him again tonight if worried so i'll see how he goes.
