Was given antibiotics by dentis because we need to get infection down before rot canal. Had reaction to ab's he prescribed a couple of years ago, with unpronouncable name, but he made note on file so gave me bog standard erythromecine this time.

Started shame symptoms as with the 'other' stuff so went online to find a list of the side effects...
And how could it otherwise be... I've got some that fall under 'call your doc immediately' argh!
so the dose I took a couple of hours ago is my last!!!

SOunds a nightmare. Sympathy. I'm not kjeen on antibs for the boys. last bhout I had was IV ones for 3 days following ds3's birth, I have never felt so utterly exhausted in my life. And although they were iv's I got the awful metallic taste side effect. They wiped me out.

Can you rest tomorrow? Try to insist that you get some.

MrsBigD · 02/09/2006 22:53

'try and insist that you get some' just glad my dh didn't see that statement he's a one track mind tonight! Though he's a darling and leaving me alone.

Had planned 'me time' down the gym tomorrow well that ain't gonna happen! My pillow's looking good though and dh had a lie in today so tomorrow it's MY TURN

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 02/09/2006 23:09

perhaps you are allergic to it??!! have you tried taking an antihistamine just to see if itching and skin rash go, piriton should do it! dh would def have to let you have a lie in then cos piriton can make you really drowsy! i def wouldn' take anymore just in case!

MrsBigD · 02/09/2006 23:14

that will do nicely, hope it goes! enjoy your lie in tomorrow!!

harrisey · 03/09/2006 00:50

my Dad is allergic to any ab which ends in 'mycin'. It is a recognised allergy, I only get prescribed ones that are differnt just in case.
Dad ended up unconscious for days after erythromycin as a young man, and recently hd a bad reacion to vanomycin.
You can ask for penecillin - for UTI's (to which I am prone) I alternate between Augmetin and Ciprofloxacin.

there's a reconised allergy against ab's ending in 'mycin'? blimey. Can't remember what the first one I reacted to was called and whether it was a 'mycin'. Have to chck that with my dentist tomorrow.

Californiafrau... I know exactly what you mean. Annoying isn't it

Thanks all for your input.

how are you feeling today Mrs? I'm feeling more sympathetic today so if you like I could make some clucky kinda noises?

edam · 03/09/2006 10:31

Sympathy MrsBig, sounds horrid.

Californiafrau, there are antibiotics that don't cause thrush - worth asking your doc about next time you need any.

Also, this may be more effort that you want to make, but homeopathy cured my antibiotic-related thrush. Had homeopathy for something different but as a side-effect, it cured the thrush and I have never had it again.

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 03/09/2006 11:04

Hi mrsbigd, did the antihistamine work?

MrsBigD · 03/09/2006 11:27

SJ don't worry about making clucky sounds... the antihistamines seem to help a bit with the itching. Still totally drained but got a lie in till 0900!
