I'm seriously considering it. Had such a heavy night last night with a friend, drank far too much, ended up smoking and I still feel vile. Really feel like doing my body and my finances a favour and just stopping drinking. Anyone done this? Interested to hear and exp!

i take it you don't live here anymore lgj? you only have to watch the news to get a glimpse of how bad things have gotton here. the main streets in every town and city are infested with people vomiting and fighting every night and the a&e's are inundated with violent drunks and their victims, teens and adults alike who need their stomaches pumped and countless idiots who injure themselves while paraletic. the amount of drunken attacks is rising by the day and the gardai simply can't cope

dinny · 02/09/2006 22:58

hey, off to bed now - cheers for all your helpful posts. D x

PT come on that is a generalisation

don't taint us all

Katymac · 02/09/2006 22:59

I was never a heavy drinker even at uni

But after I was diagnosed with ME even 1 drink could make me ill with hangover type symptoms for days or up to a week

So now I don't drink at all not even champers at a wedding

But it wasn't really a choice

PinkTulips · 02/09/2006 22:59

x-ed posts lgj, didn't need to argue my point after all. didn't even mention drunk drivers as it makes me apoplectic with rage but it's completely the norm over here... my own father doesn't understand why we take our own car to social functions as we don't want him having dd in the car while drunk driving... coz it's ok if it's only the back roads you see?!

SherlockLGJ · 02/09/2006 23:00

In fairness no I don't.

But by equal measure I never really went out on the town nor did the people I socialised with, even at 21 or so, we would hijack some ones house, with the parents permission, drink what felt like lots of wine, eat pizza and get a taxi home.

But then I was in YoungFineGael.

I guess it does not come much squarer than that.

SherlockLGJ · 02/09/2006 23:01

x ed again.

ballderdash · 02/09/2006 23:04

Jesus PT you make us all sound like total alcos- sorry but there are many more here that aren't that way inclined

ballderdash · 02/09/2006 23:05

LGJ - Young Fine Gael - really?

SherlockLGJ · 02/09/2006 23:07

Oh yes

In all honesty, I am proud of my time served.

PinkTulips · 02/09/2006 23:08

aaarrggghhh, i wrote a whole post to argue my case for 'the irish are raging alcoholics' but this says it better (mumy brain isn't being very eloquent at the minute!)

here

Littlefish · 02/09/2006 23:09

I gave up for 2 years when we were ttc. I drink fairly infrequently now, and only a couple of glasses of wine because I get instantly drunk!

ballderdash · 02/09/2006 23:10

So tell me are you |Ireland based?

Always thought of you as being British!

Sorry I tend to be other side of fence as a FF but mainly because in my life time that is all we ever knew or were faced with

PinkTulips · 02/09/2006 23:11

ballderash, where abouts are you? i'm not suggesting every irish person drinks too much... for gods sake me and dp are TEETOTALLERS! but as a nation as a whole we are quite disgraceful.... have you walked down o'connell street at 3am recently? i have....

ballderdash · 02/09/2006 23:12

Again PT I say generalisation

SherlockLGJ · 02/09/2006 23:12

How very dare you.

Anyway...............I ask myself, can I really talk to anFinFer

PinkTulips · 02/09/2006 23:13

lets agree to disagree ballderdash... far to tired to argue tonight

are you still livng in ireland? (always feellike i'm the only irish person on MN so nice to see some others )

ballderdash · 02/09/2006 23:13

Cross post so sorry about that but I really think you painted a wrong picture cos to me the whole nation are boozed out and in reality if you look at the programme Booze Britain we are no worse

zippy539 · 02/09/2006 23:16

I'd love to stop all together but find the prospect quite frightening - which is surely as good a reason as any to stop. Dinny - do post a link to your blog - I'd love to follow your progress and I might even be encouraged to join you!
