sunburned legs - swollen and painful - help!

Was on holiday last week and stupidly got badly sunburned on front of both legs on Saturday. Have been applying aloe vera gel alternated with coconut oil for moisture. Been taking ibuprofen. No blisters and skin is a lot less hot to touch than it was. Have seen GP and she wasnt massively concerned

However, my legs are massively swollen below the knee and the skin is very sensitive and painful. Its agony to walk at times. Can anyone recommend anything else I can do or take or give me an idea of when the pain will end?! Thanks

Ouch sounds painful!Make sure you are drinking plenty, take some pain relief, elevate your legs when you are sitting down but don't reduce your mobility, continue to moisturise and take cool baths to relieve the stinging. Hope it gets better soon.

I think you're absolutely right about not reducing mobility. Getting up from lying or sitting down is SO painful but when I've been moving for a few mins its not so bad. Thanks

Get your legs up on cushions/pillows so they're higher than your heart. Stick some support stockings on if you have any. Talk to your doctor.

If you've been on a long haul flight phone NHS direct now.

Not been on long haul flight. Have seen GP, said no signs of infection etc will just take time

Is the pain and swelling getting worse or have you noticed an improvement? Even a slight improvement?

I found that ibuprofen gel helped when rubbed gently into painful sunburn, it takes the sting out of it from personal experience Smile

Pain and swelling about the same for the last 2 days. Wore loose trousers today which rubbed and rubbed and irritated the skin a lot. Think will go for leggings tomorrow - nearest thing I have to surgical stockings!
