Talk to me about ovarian cysts

Anyone had one, and if so what did it feel like? I've had some lower abdo pain for a few weeks now and for the past 48 hours I've been experiencing sharp left hand side pain which radiates into my back and upper thigh. It's making me feel a bit sick.

When do I go to the doctor? I'm a bit of a worrier when it comes to health and have seen the doctor over a few things the last couple of years (unrelated). I'm a bit embarrassed to go back yet again unless I have good reason. I've got a smear in a couple of weeks. Should I wait til then and talk to the nurse?

To be on the safe side I would see GP first.
DD had an ovarian cyst but had no pain only erratic periods. it disappeared after 6 weeks. She was referred to Gyny for ultra sound when cyst was found.
Good luck.

I had the same symptoms, theabdo/ thigh pain was really getting me down and i was convinced that I had a cyst or something worse. Went for a trans vaginal ultrasound and nothing was found-mystery!

Thanks. I don't seem to be getting many other symptoms. Will give it a few more days to see if it settles then get it checked out if not. Just feel bit worn out with the pain really.

Any bloating or feeling full when eating earlier than normal? I had a massive cyst removed a few years ago as that was the only sign of anything amiss. Get it checked anyway, my cyst turned out to be a borderline tumor, which means it possibly would have turned cancerous at some point so I was very lucky.

I've had one burst. I was walking to the car & "pop" it went. Very sharp pain for days. went to the GP & she suspected it immediately. Waited weeks for a scan to confirm it was it & my ovarian area showed some fluid there - excess from the cyst. If it happens again I am to call the GP straight away for a scan.

best get to a GP to chat about it.

I woke up one day with what I thought was strong period pain. After a while it became concentrated in one hip but was also spreading out. I ended up in the emergency GPs where they told me they suspected something to do with my colon or something and recommended buscopan. The pain came and went for a few weeks, then one day had me wailing in pain. I was sent in an ambulance to hospital and it was removed the same day. Turned out it was a 15cm cyst on my left ovary that had twisted my Fallopian tube 1.5 times. Pain was hideous.
