back of hand red swollen tender ,hurts when move fingers - what can it be ?

This came on Monday evening ,noticed hand was sore when watching tV .

Kept me awake all night ,very painful and couldn't use hand at all on Tuesday.

Bit better today but still v sore ,tender around the large outer wrist bone bump .

Am icing ,applying that ibropren gel stuff . Less painful if I keep it up near my neck .

Just puzzled as to the cause and why it came on so rapidly . I'm positive I've not knocked it .

Anyone any ideas ?

Insect bite or similar?

thanks penny ,I did wonder if it could be that . But no sign of any puncture and the redness covers a big area + there is an area round the wrist bone that feels sort of bruised .

Odd .And sore . But I guess trivial when compare to a lot of other stuff .
