Bone "lump" on foot - what could it be?

Hi, a couple of weeks ago my left foot started hurting - sore on the top as if someone had stamped on it or something - however i don't recall doing anything to it. A few days later i noticed a hard lump on the top, feels like its my bone sticking up. I thought i'd obviously knocked it or something and it would get better/go away by itself and the discomfort did ease after a few more days.

However today and yesterday when i've walked to work (so more walking than other days), my foot is hurting again and the lump of bone is still sticking up. It also hurts (and is quite difficult) to flex my toes up IYSWIM.

I stupidly googled and the first thing that popped up as a result of "hard bony lump on foot" was about a bone tumour so now i am panicking. Does anyone have any idea what it might be? Thanks.

I never found out what it was for certain, though a podiatrist also thought it likely to be a ganglion. It’s still there now and been unchanged for the last 3yrs!

Are you still in pain? I hope not! I think I have the same problem the pain started a couple of weeks ago and like you it felt like someone had stamped on my foot. I have been to the GP who took a blood test to rule out gout and sent me for an x ray, both came back clear, I am now waiting for an ultrasound scan. There was a slight red patch on top of my foot near my second toe and it got quite swollen after walking, ice cube bags help a bit. Today I have noticed a small hard lump on top of my foot at the base of my second toe which is where the pain comes from. I'm in so much pain and walking is really difficult even without shes around the house. In your last post you say you never really got to the bottom of the problem, does it still hurt? Do you have any advice?

The bony lump is still there but doesn't hurt or anything. Never found out for sure what it is so assume it is a ganglion like my gp said.
