Need some reassurance, worried myself sick re: bleeding after sex

about 2 months ago after sex we noticed that there was some blood, and not just a few drops, since then I have been bleeding pretty much non stop, I have gone the odd day with out any blood, then the next day it starts ago, some days its just something there when I wipe other day its a little more.

I have been to the doctors who have referred me to see the gynecologist, I have my appointment in a week, but I have managed to get myself into a state worrying, I know its not helpful but I can not help it.

The only other symptom I have is that it feels a little sore, I am guessing around cervix area.

I have not had a period since the end of January, I have polysystic ovaries, and typically I have 4/5 periods a year.

I do not have the coil not am I on any other medication.

I did have an abnormal smear about 12 years ago where I needed lletz treatment to get rid of some abnormal cells.

Any advice reassurance welcome.

TIA

Oooh sorry I have no experience or advice other than have you tried googling it? The NHS website is quite good and as you have previous issues there may be other symptoms linked to your experience which may settle your nerves?

Thanks for replying Bramblina, I have this policy to try not to google, as when I do the C word comes up and freaks me out.

I had this 7 years ago and was diagnosed with a cervical erosion, which is when cells that normally grow inside the cervix grow outside. I had them cauterised and have had no problems since. Hope your appointment goes well.

Runkittyrun · 17/05/2014 23:57

Cervical erosion - better termed an ectropion or ectropian is a normal physiological process. The epithelium or skin on the cervical moves outwards from the cervical canal with hormonal changes after puberty. This results in the more delicate skin from within the endocervical canal be exposed to the vagina. As the skin is thinner it is more prone to infections and bleeds more readily.
As edwinbear says this can be treated with cautery.

Hope the gynae appt goes ok, hang on in there.

Try not to worry - I know this is easier said than done! I had the same thing as you, bleeding after sex, even after a coughing fit.

I went to the doctors and was referred to the women's unit at the hospital. All this happened within a week so I convinced myself something was seriously wrong.

I had a LLETZ treatment three years ago, and the scar had healed a bit too much, causing the bleeding. I have an appointment tomorrow for it to be frozen ( can't wait for that!!) it was nothing serious at all. I hope it passes quickly for you, it's a worrying time I know. X

Thank you for replying :) it makes me feel a lot better.

Lovely to hear similar stories, where it was ok.

I had bleeding after sex in the past. It was cervical erosion.

Try not to worry - easier said than done, though, I know.

Thanks Wandering x

Had my appointment, she could not see what was causing my bleeding, so will have to wait for a emergency appointment to have a colposcopy, has anyone any experience of one of those?

How old are you? Years ago I used to bleed after sex, had abnormal smears for a while and then they went to normal and have stayed there.

They put it down to me being young and said it's common

healthanxiety · 22/05/2014 21:08

Late 30's.

They told me common for under 25s as I was at the time. Sorry.

Cervical erosion sounds likely tho Grin

CheesyBadger · 22/05/2014 23:00

I had a cervical erosion and chlamydia which the gynae says could also cause bleeding

Fixed easily enough though

Try not to worry. I think an erosion is picked up by a sample being taken and they look for womb cells so just having a look probably wouldn't show much
