New thread!

mrsrhodgilbert I suspect you will be OK on Monday as I (living near Cambridge) will be held up by the road closures/traffic because of the Tour. I shall have to get a train before 7am as the road to the station will be closed from 7am! The upside is, that if I do get to work, in London, my current office window looks out directly onto the Embankment, so I can see the race go by there without having to leave my desk!

Saw my surgeon today and he wants to operate again on Tuesday to close my wound. I might be having a skin graft. It'll be an overnight stay and I'll be on total bed rest afterwards. Not quite sure how that works with toileting matters but I guess the hospital will advise. Certainly testing the strength of the marriage vows eh!

mrsrhodgilbert · 04/07/2014 15:32

Oh becca, that sounds rough, but good that they are going to get you patched up now. Have they said how long the bed rest will be?

mrsrhodgilbert · 04/07/2014 15:36

Hi lily, there won't be any road closures on Monday but there will be thousands of visitors trying to leave the area and masses of tv lorries etc that travel with it. Dd has to be at school at 6.30am for a school trip, I think we will just carry on to Leeds straight from there. Hope the nurses don't mind the straight out of bed look.

Speedypenguin · 04/07/2014 16:40

Have a great holiday mom.

Wee. It must be nice to bear the head in this warm weather.

Hope rads go ok mrs.

Doesn't sound fun Becca but hopefully you will heal up quickly.

Nelsonwasonce · 04/07/2014 20:55

Hi all,I'm back Smile Op went as well as could be expected. Had a massive cry after coming round from anesthetic but am ok now. Feeling bruised.Have been hoisted into one of these really tight vests which is not a joy in this hot weather but does make me feel quite protected. I have forgotten how long I should wear it,but I think 3 days. My mind and memory are like a sieve at the moment, does that sound familiar?
Becca gosh,I feel for you...... I struggle with doing nothing, let alone being totally bed bound! Wishing you strength and healing.

ConsiderablyBiggerBuns · 04/07/2014 23:06

becca sounds tough but hopefully they will get you sorted.
nelson I don't remember a tight vest at all - don't think I have erased from my memory so must be something they don't bother with in my neck of the woods.
Bad day for me today. As previous, lost my hair today. The hairdressers were lovely and did their best to make if as untraumatic as possible, had a glass of wine and hair has been sent to little princess trust. Wish I had had it all off yesterday so there was more to donate. Also had scan results, there is something on my liver, might be a cyst so I will have an ultrasound to rule that out - anybody else had that? Also, have had pain in my upper arm above picc line. Hospital thought it might be a blood clot and had to wait for 2 hours for an ultra sound for that - it wasn't, but still not sure what is causing it. I have been using a ball thrower, think that was a mistake. Anybody else had problems with picc lines? Other than that, very glad to have got today over with. Went out this evening in wig as modelled by mungo, felt quite good in it. The other wig I had was unwearable as the fringe is annoyingly in my eye the whole time.

mrsrhodgilbert · 05/07/2014 02:00

Buns, sorry you've had a difficult day with yet more unanswered questions.

I've got one of my oldest friends staying or the Tour de France. We have had wine and stayed up late. My 20 year old was complaining about the noise as she has to work tomorrow!

Welcome back nelson.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 05/07/2014 16:35

buns, most hairdressers would cut that fringe on your wig for you.

Speedypenguin · 05/07/2014 18:56

Buns. I also had a pain above my PICC line. They checked it out but all ok. Think it was more to do with my veins being sore and not moving my arm around enough as had been feeling poorly. It got better within a few days so hopefully you will be the same.

ConsiderablyBiggerBuns · 05/07/2014 20:41

Thanks for the reassurance speedy and it is feeling better already today. I think maybe too much movement ( of the wrong sort) was my issue, I'm trying to get up to speed with throwing a ball with my left arm. A bit frustrating for the dog when it lands 2 metres from my feet!
Yes mom, will take the wig to my hairdresser, would be a shame not to use it as I like the length and shape. I was given a second hand wig from a friend, ended up wearing that today as it is closest to my own hair so husband and DD2 (neither of whom handle change particularly well) prefer it. At the moment I am resplendent in a drapey scarf - feel quite bohemian.

honeybeeridiculous · 06/07/2014 12:42

weebarra · 06/07/2014 13:11

Honeybeer, good on your DD and hope your dad is recovering well, I remember how difficult his rads were for him.

honeybeeridiculous · 06/07/2014 14:09

Thanks weebarra dad is doing ok, still pretty exhausted but much better than he was. Bought a tear to my eye watching all the runners today, each with their own story to tell, some happy, some not so good x

foofooyeah · 06/07/2014 22:02

Hi honeybee well done to your DD x

Speedypenguin · 07/07/2014 12:40

Honeybee well done to your daughter.

Well - docetaxol is fun! At least not much nausea, although my mouth makes me want to be sick. No idea what I want to eat and the stomach cramps yesterday made me think I was going to give birth again! Am presuming it's ok to take paracetamol and ibuprofen for aches.

My mantra has become 'this will end soon' and I know it does.

Flowers for everyone.

felinesad · 07/07/2014 13:10

speedy Yes I had the horrible mouth taste with docetaxel but it went after about 4 days. Also the feeling hungry but not knowing what to eat. A really bizarre feeling and I ended up eating a lot more than I wanted just to rid myself of the horrible taste and very very slight nausea. Ate a lots of salads with balsamic vinegar which did seem to help temporarily.

Also had the cramps but not as bad as you and were generally linked to diarrhoea

As you say this will pass and a week after my last docetaxel I feel fine although still pretty lethargic.

malteserzz · 07/07/2014 13:32

Honey well done to your DD and it's good to hear from you :)

I'm feeling rough today but don't feel sorry for me as it's self inflicted. Sambucca shots at a wedding yesterday, I should know better !

Speedypenguin · 07/07/2014 16:19

Thanks feline. Am glad you have got to the end of yours and you are feeling generally better. Maybe I'll try some salads- better get online ordering.

Malt sounds like you had a great time. Sorry you feel rough today though.

Ladytubbles · 08/07/2014 09:39

Well I have my first oncology appointment next week and think I will be starting treatment towards the end of July or beginning of August - just in time for the DCs to be off school - not sure if that's good timing or not!

In the meantime we've decided to try and get a week away somewhere hot and sunny. It will mean DS(10) missing the last 2 days of term (DD breaks up earlier) - I'm wondering whether it will count as 'exceptional circumstances' and be authorised by the school but as they have been pretty unhelpful so far I'm not convinced.

beccajoh · 08/07/2014 10:11

My surgery has been postponed until Saturday SIGH. I'm fine this morning, but spent most of yesterday being sick. Was meant to be going into hospital this morning. We kept the hospital informed all yesterday and the secretary said they'd see how things were this morning. Called up and told them I was feeling fine, and the secretary ran it past the theatre staff who immediately said no and they don't want me in until 48 hours has elapsed. Bit peed off the secretary didn't check all this yesterday tbh, as we've already sent the DCs off to the in-laws and we had a child-free night but still had to get up at 6am this morning as we thought I was going to be admitted.

malteserzz · 08/07/2014 13:38

Becca what a pain, it's upsetting when you have to wait longer than you thought. I was sent home on the day of my node clearance after waiting around all day because they ran out of time in theatre. It's frustrating when you have children to sort too. I hope you can do something nice to fill these few days

Lady a holiday sounds a great idea, where do you fancy ? I'm sure they won't miss much in the last few days and even if you do get fined it'll be worth it to get away

Speedy how are you feeling today ? Think you do just have to eat what you fancy, I liked strong tastes like marmite!

Bigger buns hope you can get the wig cut so you can wear it

I'm hangover free today :)

weebarra · 08/07/2014 15:24

Lady, I'm in Scotland (so no Mr Gove and no fines) but my boys' HT authorised a week off as she said the circs were exceptional. They have been very supportive of the children and I though.

mrsrhodgilbert · 08/07/2014 16:37

Day two of rads done, I was home by 9am. wine how are you doing? Any skin damage yet? Are you coping with the travelling? I'm slapping on the moogoo. Very little skin care advice given, but I can use unscented antiperspirant and go in the sun if I use a high factor sun cream. I'm quite surprised at the different advice given around the country. I will be very cautious when we go away.

becca sorry to hear about your postponement, how frustrating for you.

speedy how are you doing, sounds like you're having a rough time?

bigger hope you're getting used to your smooth head and getting on with your wigs.

Speedypenguin · 08/07/2014 17:56

Lady- am sure you should be able to get away. It should count as exceptional circumstances. My head would ok it am sure but I know some are a bit different.

Becca what a nightmare for you. Hope you get the op soon.

Malt glad your hangover has gone Smile. I am eating bits and pieces, finding it difficult to fancy much but going with whatever. Marmite sounds good.

Mrs- it seems to be better than FEC at least!

Did anyone have anything stronger than paracetamol and ibuprofen for the aches? I just can't get comfy, although it is better than yesterday.
