New thread!

Bigger buns it could well be the steroids, hope you get some rest today

Kitkat oh no ! Glad they passed :) is she going on to do her silver next year, mine is. I'm glad it's cloudy at the moment, I have been fussing about water and sun cream but lost the hat battle !

kitkat1967 · 21/06/2014 11:10

Malt - I think so. She is only in year 9 - this year is a trial to do it early - and as she is the youngest in the year (and still only 13) it was hard to get the volunteering organised. We finally did and now it turns out that very few of the girls have completed this bit (there are 68 of them altogether!!). So I'm guessing they do Silver next year but will wait and see.

And yes - we sent her off with loads of water last weekend. She actually preferred the practise weekend which was done in rain and storms and all the tents fell down/blew away!! - But she is slightly mad and quite outdoorsey Grin.

weebarra · 21/06/2014 12:06

I've just seen on the life limiting illness topic that our friend knitting novice passed away peacefully in her hospice last night, surrounded by her family. Knitting didn't post on this thread very much but she was a brave and positive woman with a very young family.
I will raise a glass to her tonight, RIP knittingnovice.

Speedypenguin · 21/06/2014 14:15

Good news Foo.
Glad you are nearly there wee.
Good luck to your DD malt.

Mummywheel · 21/06/2014 15:56

Great news foo and wee Smile

Good luck to your DD malt DS2 is doing his D of E through the Air Training Corps.

Knitting novice must have been before my time on here but will also raise a glass to her too.

Does sound like the steroids biggerbuns keeping you awake, but good that you don't have any sickness.

Speedypenguin · 21/06/2014 17:07

Wee- not sure how I missed your post earlier. I went over and read knittings post and her blog. Definitely deserves a glass raised.

reallyreallyworried · 21/06/2014 21:56

foofoo that is wonderful news. I am so pleased for you! Xx

trice · 22/06/2014 16:54

I am absolutely green with envy Foo - what a wonderful development!

I did a 5km fun run this morning - it was great.

ConsiderablyBiggerBuns · 22/06/2014 17:24

Hello Lovely Ladies, so chemo day 4. Yesterday I was run over by the exhaustion truck today it came back and reversed over me several times with pains in every joint and muscle - still the stuff must be doing something! How long does the limb pains last in your experiences?
On more positive news, still very little nausea, did feel a bit sick when I woke up this morning but passed once I had a cup of tea so didn't bother with any medication.
Well done on the 5km trice, my daughter and 9 of her friends ran the Race for Life in Plymouth today in my name. Didn't think I would be well enough to see her (20 miles way) as I was feeling so rotten this morning but managed to get there for the end. Very emotional. Mine's the one in the pink ribbons with ice cream. Running anywhere seems a bit of a distant dream at the moment, but to be honest that has absolutely nothing to do with chemo!

Glad the nausea is passing you by biggerbuns and a big well done to your daughter. I went to college in Plymouth; loved the place.

Trice- admire anyone who can run 5k.

Have been feeling better over the weekend so am not impressed that my tummy is now playing up! At least I don't feel that sick anymore. Spent the morning watching my son play cricket which was lovely.

Hope everyone had a good Sunday.

wineoclocktimeye · 22/06/2014 18:08

Well done to your daughter CBB

Hope your tummys feeling better speedy - I was at Poly in Plymouth too, fantastic 3 years, 1983-1986, wouldn't it be funny if we knew each other?

difficultpickle · 22/06/2014 18:23

Afternoon everyone. I can't remember the last time I posted on here but it must have been April before I went in to hospital for my second in patient lot of chemo. 10 weeks later I'm still in hospital and have had a horrible time (very very poorly for weeks). I'm a lot better now but still stuck in hospital because chemo bashed my bone marrow so badly it has practically given up functioning. My blood counts are too low to let me out of isolation although I am at home for this afternoon provided I don't see anyone other than immediate family (mum and ds).

I have one more week in the local hospital before I transfer to London and proceed with the stem cell transplant. The consultant has decided the only way to help my blood counts is to get on with the transplant even though I'm far from fully fit.

Looks as if I've got a lot of catching up to read on this thread.

ConsiderablyBiggerBuns · 22/06/2014 18:28

Hello difficultpickle I know that everyone has been thinking of you, you have been missed. I suspected things might be a bit rough, do you think the worst is over? Enjoy the afternoon with your loved ones and good luck on the next stage - lots of people routing for you here. X

malteserzz · 22/06/2014 18:40

Difficult pickle lovely to hear from you we had been wondering how you were. Sorry things have been tough for you. Glad you were able to spend a little time at home today. Don't worry about trying to catch up we all understand x

Trice that's brilliant especially when I think how poorly you were when I started posting on here last year

Speedy hope your tummy settles down

Bigger buns well done to your dd

Ds is 11 today so we've been out for lunch. Dd has finished her D of E expedition and all went well though she said it was very hot and is shattered now !

difficultpickle · 22/06/2014 18:47

Interesting the chemo I have to have for the transplant is less aggressive than the chemo I have been having. I hope I'm over the worst. I had septicemia literally the minute I arrived in hospital for my second stay. That was followed by repeated infections. Weeks passed in a fog where I was barely conscious. I had two Hickman lines removed, a central line inserted in case I ended up in intensive care, seven cannulas when they had to remove the central line and now I have a picc line. Have also been on a huge amount of drugs which mean I've now lost nearly 3.5 stone. I was happy with losing weight to start with but it needs to stop now.

I could do with a bit of luck. I had tests at King's last week and spoke to another patient who'd had his transplant. He was only in for 3.5 weeks. I'd love it if I get away with similar.

Speedypenguin · 22/06/2014 20:12

Glad to hear from you again difficult pickle. Sorry you have been feeling so poorly but hope that you are enjoying time with your family.

Wine- I was at marjons from 91-95. Had a great time.

Malt- hope your ds had a lovely birthday

Tummy is not entirely happy but drugs have been taken. I thought I had got away with this bit this time!

ConsiderablyBiggerBuns · 22/06/2014 20:56

Hi speedy my mum was an English lecturer at Marjons at that time! Sorry you still have tummy trouble, I am just so grateful that I am not feeling sick at the moment although am currently struggling with the constipation as a result of the strong anti sick meds - always something new to look forward to! Am dreading bedtime because I am so achey- can take my mind off of it when up and about but not nice when in bed. Also trying to decide whether I am in the right frame of mind to watch another downloaded episode of Happy Valley - need to be feeling strong.
pickle here's hoping that you are over the worse and the next phase is shorter and kinder.

mildmay · 22/06/2014 21:08

so good to hear from you pickle.hope things get better from now on and lovely that you got to spend time with Ds and mother.

trice · 22/06/2014 23:29

Nice to hear from you Pickle, I hope things get easier for you from now on.

amberlight · 23/06/2014 09:30

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24945997 may be useful reading material. Proper big research study in Scotland with a thousand breast cancer patients who were taking aspirin. The aspirin may halve the risk of dying, after someone is diagnosed with breast cancer. They are still researching this stuff. But meantime, check it out with your oncologists/GPs beforehand, as aspirin has side effects. Wave the article at them so they know what it is. Blimey! Quite a result so far.
Apologies for the dashing in and dumping data instead of proper greetings.

Speedypenguin · 23/06/2014 11:53

Very interesting amber, thanks.

Have just come back from my scan- the lump has shrunk again and took a while to find Grin. Will take that. Off out to lunch.

Biggerbuns hope you are less achey today.

traviata · 23/06/2014 12:42

thanks Amber, I have bookmarked and will be asking my onc about this.

Lilymaid · 23/06/2014 12:46

Thanks Amber - shall ask my Onc what he thinks! Unless there is problems with blood thinning with my current drug regime he will, no doubt, be as equivocal as always.

OP posts:
ConsiderablyBiggerBuns · 23/06/2014 17:22

Thanks amber, isn't that quite incredible that something as easily accessible as aspirin may be able to make such a difference. On the subject of trials, have any of you been asked to be part of the trial for PRESENT 'prevention of recurrence in early-stage node-positive breast cancer with low to intermediate HER2 expression with neuvax treatment'. Basically it is to determine a herceptin like vaccine for positive tumours. I have agreed to be assessed for suitability, knowing me I will get put in the control group. Last time that happened was when I was pregnant and they were doing a trial about pelvic floor, I was in the at risk group for incontinence but in the control group so no additional assistance given - i like to think my results bucked the trend and I can still trampoline with the best of them!
Aches have eased a bit today, haven't taken any painkillers yet, have spent about 6 hours in bed listening to the lad next door drumming! He does it in his shed, unfortunately for us, the shed is much closer to our property than to his parents - can't really complain, we have 3 cockerels!
Any tips on tackling constipation, modern science doesn't seem to be helping with that one much!

foofooyeah · 23/06/2014 18:03

trice well done on the 5k.

pickle several of us were asking after you. It sounds like you have had a bloody awful time.

cbb remind me what chemo you are on? Have you. Got some decent pain killers fr bedtime? I took Tramadol at nighttime when v achy.

penguin pleased to hear lump has shrunk again and starting to be elusive
