Cricket was good thanks biggerbuns. Ds' team won! I took anti sickness tablet to ward it off and think I need to take another one now and keep fingers crossed.
I hope the dentist goes well. I had a filling sorted before I started.

mrsrhodgilbert · 01/06/2014 22:32

Thank you, I will stick around.

wine it will be nice to have a rads and tamoxifen buddy. I need to take my prescription request to the gp tomorrow. Then I'll look forward to the hot flushes and night sweats. I'm 50 and get the night sweats sometimes already, plus I had them badly after having each dd years ago. I suspect this will be a sure thing.

Has anyone worked out if its better to take it morning or evening? Does it interfere with sleep?

I've also ordered some moogoo ready for rads.

I was given a booklet at my results appt on Friday which has all my particular results in. I haven't dared look at it yet. Head in the sand, self preservation, I don't know? A month ago I thought I was perfectly healthy and my head is still in a spin, even though the consultant was at pains to reassure me.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 01/06/2014 23:35

mrs glad you will stick around. I take my tamoxifen in the morning, when I'm most likely up remember to take it... I'm 48, and so far night sweats have not been a problem.

malt your holiday sounds fab. Post lots of photos when you are there!!

Dd1 was 12 on Thur. Had sleepover Fri night and friends stuck around until 7pm Sat. Still recovering!! But a lovely time. In a years time I'll have a teenager, YIKES!'

UKsounding · 02/06/2014 00:50

mrs I take my tamoxifen a couple of hours before bed! as I am tucking DD into bed. I tried a variety of times of the day before settling on that as the best. Initially I was pretty miserable with hot flushes disturbing sleep as well as daytime activity, but found the effects diminished with time so hang in there. Switching brands gave me different side effects, but not better. I am into my third three-month prescription and it is a lot better than the early days.

malteserzz · 02/06/2014 07:57

I take my tamoxifen at 6pm, I have an alarm on my phone to remind me. Haven't had any side effects at all.

wineoclocktimeye · 02/06/2014 08:21

Glad you'll be around mrs, I've got an appointment with my onc on we'd and think I'll get my prescription then.

mom, my DS1 was 12 last week too! We have postponed his sleepover indefinitely if I had my way until I feel better so looking forward to that!

Hope sickness gone speedy

Mexico sounds fantastic malt, definitely need to see the pics.

So, hope all the kids get back to school ok (and DS2 isn't the only one with a non-ironed PE kit!)

Have a good day everyone

Lilymaid · 02/06/2014 08:31

DS2 has his university finals this week so we are hoping they go well. He's worked hard and has had to deal with his leukaemia diagnosis (now well under control) at the beginning of his second year. He's hoping to go on to an MSc next year so we have one more year of exam angst!

OP posts:
weebarra · 02/06/2014 09:10

Good luck to your DS2 lilymaid!
I have my pre rads imaging check today, my Dad is taking me while Mum looks after the DCs. DS2 was very sad when his daddy and big brother left last night. He was trying so hard to be brave but he is only 3!
Seromas are coming back - feel like I'm 3 days post natal and my milk's just come in.
Really hope it doesn't screw up the rads, I suppose as most people have op, chemo then rads, the issues doesn't always arise.

malteserzz · 02/06/2014 09:23

I'm sure there will be pics on FB!

Lily good luck to your ds hope he does well, did you go to guernsey ?
Hope you had a good time

Wee good luck with your scan hope the seromas don't cause any issues with the rads, must be hard leaving your family I do feel for you. But it's another step to finishing treatment :)

Wren48 · 02/06/2014 09:52

Wee, snap on the pre rads imaging check today! It must be hard for the family. I've just put on a particularly fiddly headscarf (new tying technique recommended by a friend - very successful) which was not too bright as it will fall off when I disrobe and I'll never be able to reconstruct it.

Trying to look nice today but have reached the stage in the tax cycle when eye make up falls off with the constant teary eyes. Eyebrows continue to thin. Can anyone remember when the last tax stops having an effect on brows and lashes?

Good luck to DS2, Lily!

kitkat1967 · 02/06/2014 10:07

I take my Tamoxifen in the morning but do struggle with the hot flushes. I probably have around a dozen a day - I haven't slept all night since the start of October but I do think they are gradually getting better. No other side effects though.

Wren - I actually lost my eyebrows and eyelashes 4 weeks after my last Tax (they had hung in until then) - so I guess the effects last a month. (They grew back immediately). I gave up on eye makeup entirely at that point.

reallyreallyworried · 02/06/2014 10:48

Hi all

Sorry wren like kitkat I lost all my eyelashes weeks after finishing last tax! But didn't lose all my eyebrows! Both have grown back very quickly!

Good luck to those with appointments/treatment today!

I managed to do the school and nursery run scarf free today, so I am feeling pleased with myself, and although I felt very self conscious, I believe now that it can only get easier!! hopefully

Had a bad weekend and was hoping to speak to my BCN today for a little reassurance, but typically she's on leave till Wednesday! Bless her she deserves her holidays, but I wish her timing was better Wink

Anyway I have work to do! Hope everyone has a good day.

foofoo hope you are doing okay, been thinking about you xx

malt that sounds like an amazing holiday destination xx

Lilymaid · 02/06/2014 11:18

Wren I had 6 rounds of Tax. Fortunately didn't lose all eyebrows/lashes though they thinned. Regrowth after Tax was pretty quick (as was return of unwanted hairs!)
Malt Guernsey was very pleasant - two sunny days out of three and lovely walks along cliff paths with wild flowers and nice cake, crab sandwiches and coffee from cafés and kiosks en route

Wren48 · 02/06/2014 18:27

Thanks for all the feedback on eyebrows/ lashes post tax, but bother, too, as they're clearly not about to spring back to normal. But best to be prepared...

The radiography staff have all clearly had training in being kind and friendly; they were all great at my planning CT scan today. My initial briefing was given by a very young woman who tried so hard: first time I've been asked if my journey to hospital was "fun". Smile

All 3 dcs have exams this week. Poor loves. GCSEs seem to go on forever.

trice · 02/06/2014 22:48

Good luck to all dcs taking exams this week. I am glad we are not quite in that boat yet!

I let ds go to the cinema without an adult yesterday and walk back with his dizzy friend, they are 12 and quite sensible really. I was very restrained and only rang three time to check on him. I wonder if I would have been quite so anxious and helicopter parenty if I hadn't had this disease?

malteserzz · 03/06/2014 08:08

Morning all

Really I'm sorry you couldn't speak to your BCN, hope you feel a bit brighter today. Well done for going scarf free

Wren glad the rads planning went ok, lol at your journey being fun !

Trice I don't know but at least you're facing your fears and letting him go

reallyreallyworried · 03/06/2014 10:00

Thanks malt still feeling a bit ???????? Not really sure! Confused just having a paranoid moment! Hence the needing a chat with my BCN to hopefully reassure me so I can relax again! Hopefully will speak to her first thing tomorrow!

How you doing? How's work? Are you back into the swing of things now! Xx

malteserzz · 03/06/2014 10:25

Hope you can speak to her tomorrow. Yes work going ok thanks, still feel a bit weird that I missed most of this year so this class don't feel like mine but all the new children are visiting this week and there's only 6 weeks left of this school year so hopefully next year will be easier.

Should be planning now but keep being distracted !

traviata · 03/06/2014 11:07

I hope everybody is doing ok today.

Good luck at the dentist Considerably, I had to have a molar extracted just before I started treatment, and in some ways the weird way my mouth felt afterwards was more disturbing than other symptoms.

Speedy I hope you feel more settled and sickness free.

My hair is now starting to come out, but it did occur to me that at least I will be free of the nit infestations that the DC occasionally pass on (thanks DC!).

I was de-nitting myself a couple of weeks ago, and musing on how interesting and unexpected it was that the nits were able to survive despite the FEC running happily through my blood at the time. Perhaps along with cockroaches they would survive a nuclear explosion.

Did anyone else notice changes to their skin? I have been using sun cream as recommended, but all kinds of other things seem to be happening. If I lean on my arm, the skin goes into crease marks that take ages to fade, and yesterday after doing some gardening my arms were criss-crossed with red weals, although I wasn't near any plants that would normally cause problems. Extra sensitivity, I guess.

weebarra · 03/06/2014 12:13

Funny traviata - noticed exactly what you describe re creases in my arms which take ages to go!
Managed my 40 mins with arms above my head for rads today. Only 14 more to go!

mildmay · 03/06/2014 19:21

hi all .was just hoping for a bit of advice on cording after 3 fec have lots of pain in arm and no longer able to straighten it fully.told by nurse today i should have had a picc line after second fec.first t on friday but have been told cording will not get worse from this.also having first herceptin injection at same time.can i expect side effect from injecton as i forgot to ask.
just want to say how much it helps to hear about those of you who are back at work and going on holidays.at the moment it seems like treatment will never end.
hope everyone has a lovely evening

Speedypenguin · 03/06/2014 21:14

Hi all. Sickness now mild and liveable with, hopefully will disappear completely soon. Thanks for all information on tax- that will be coming my way so really useful to know what to expect.

Mildmay- my arm is sore too but did have PICC line in after second lot. I can't straighten it either but have been trying gentle stretches to try and help. There is a physio at the hospital but I haven't seen her. The nurses just told me to try and move it as much as I can and it may take awhile to get better. Sorry you are uncomfortable. The line has really helped so am hoping it will stay in for all the rest.

malteserzz · 03/06/2014 23:06

My arm got sore through chemo too and my vein was very prominent, it doesn't hurt at all now and I have full movement but you can still see the vein

Mildmay I remember saying to my husband last year I couldn't see an end to all the treatment and hadnt got one thing to look forward to, the other day we talked about everything we've got planned for the summer and things are busy again. It will happen for you too Smile

Speedy glad you're feeling better

Wee glad rads was ok bet it will get quicker than 40 mins

Traviata sorry about your hair. Have you got scarves or wigs ready ?

Hope everyone sleeps ok

mildmay · 04/06/2014 08:07

speedy glad your sickness is passing .lets hope t is a bit easier.
thanks malt i have said the same thing to my dh many times in last few months and hopefully next year we will be back to normal again.
hope everyone has a good day .very wet and cloudy here in lincoln ,
