Low thyroid & ankle reflex test

I've just come back from the doctor's who thinks I've got an underactive thyroid.
TBH I am really hoping I do because I feel cr@p, am always cold, get my periods every 3 weeks and have gained 8 lbs in the past 6 weeks [sob]despite being a 'cook from scratch and eat 8 portions of fruit or veg a day' kind of person. I've also had a positive ankle reflex test.

I won't get the blood test result until Friday - how accurate is the ankle reflex test? Has anyone had a positive ankle reflex result but turned out to have normal thyroid function?

I am really hoping this is it. I can't eat less than I do at the moment - am sticking to 1200 calories per day just to stop piling it on.

If it's not the thyroid it's sleep deprivation, something that's pretty much out of my control now.

thanks amanda, I'm really keeping my fingers crossed here that it is that (my GP said it's the only disease people hope they've got!)

The ankle thing is something where the ankle is tapped and the calf muscle contracts (making your toes point down), and the speed with which the muscle relaxes again is an indicator. It should relax quickly, but if you have an UAT it's in slow motion. Really weird!
