Pneumonia/Pleurisy and 'bug in the blood'

My DM is in hospital with double pneumonia and pleurisy. She us underlying health probs too - and is late 60s. Her DH has just texted to say that she has a bug in the blood that causes pneumonia and meningitis so he and DB are also being treated.

Does this mean she has septicaemia? Or just badly worded way to say they've isolated the cause and they are treating the others two just in case?

Ack - hate doing this by text but funny family . . .

Thanks

Aah, thanks, that's what I wanted to know, so it's just the fact they've identified the cause rather than her having septicaemia too.

spot on, exactly what she has and those with close living contact having prophylactic treatment

Thanks for your reassurance whilst I was waiting
