Can anyone talk to me about constipation please? I'm in agony.

I've never suffered with constipation before but this is the second time in the last couple of weeks (I haven't changed my diet at all).

The reason I think it's constipation is because I haven't.passed a stool since yesterday morning but the pain is so severe that I'm not entirely convinced it is constipation. I'm sittig here im agony, can constipation pain really be that bad? The pain is across the middle of my stomach and then especially severe on my right side (between my rib and hip) and around to my back - just on the very left of my back. It's very sore in these areas. Does this sound right?

I eat well generally amd have eaten lots more fruit, veg and fibre than usual today and drank lots of water but I'm still in pain and still haven't passed anything

I feel lethargic too.

Does anyone have any advice please?

Thanks in advance.

Could it be gallstones? Just the pain on your right hand side and being so severe sounds a bit like that?

Cherryblossomsmile · 08/05/2014 14:25

See your GP or get to a drop in centre. It doesn't sound like constipation if you had a bowel movement yesterday.

RubyGoat · 08/05/2014 14:30

Sounds unlikely to be constipation, you're in a lot of pain & it would be more common for the pain to be on the left side. Also, if you've not changed your diet, I'd be inclined to speak to doctor, as sudden constipation with no obvious cause should be checked out.

mumofthemonsters808 · 08/05/2014 14:33

I agree with other posters it does not sound like constipation. I'd make an appointment at the Doctors or go to the drop in centre.

Thank you for replies.

In my op I said back pain in my left side, I meant right of course. Will look up gallstones now.

Looked up gallstones and it does sound like it might be that, fits in with the pain location and also says it can come and go - I had similar pains a couple of weeks ago which went away. I normally poo once a day though - in the am (like clockwork Grin) and didn't go today so thought maybe it was the constipation. I guess the gp is the only one who'll know. I'm a bit frightened now :(

I'm really bloated too. Don't know if that makes a difference?

It is unlikely to be constipation - you had a bm yesterday?

Have you been eating erratically? I get terrible trapped wind pains if I miss a meal - or eat too much sugar on an empty stomach. Bloating too. The pain can be quite intense - and I can't even think about moving much.

I'd get checked out at the GP. Hope you soon feel better.

MotorLoo · 08/05/2014 19:47

Thank you lazy, I often eat erratically. When you have trapped wind does it hurt on the right side or does it tend to be all over?

This could be appendicitis. If you haven't had you appendix removed before you should call 111

MinesAPintOfTea · 08/05/2014 19:57

I was thinking appendix too. The only way I could describe it was the wrist trapped wind ever.

Suggest you at least see out if hours (111) tonight.

littleowl14 · 08/05/2014 20:09

a colleague had a blockage in her gut and had to go to hospital (not sure what they did) I'd call 111 or go to walk in if getting that bad.
