Have has a sore back for longer than I care to remember - just one of those things. Have had 'burning feet' for a few months, sometimes worse in bed at night. For the past 2-3 weeks have had an incredibly painful right shoulder. Now have developed pain in my left hip - felt like the sciatica I had when pregnant. Took half an hour to negotiate my way out of bed 2 days ago. Also feel tired all the time. Have seen GP and started anti-inflammatory medication. Am getting blood samples taken tomorrow - have convinced myself that I have some kind of auto-immune disorder. Back is aching now sitting typing this. Am I over-reacting. Symptoms sound familiar to anyone? A case of a little knowledge is a dangerous thing?

Hi Mears, hope you are feeling better today. Just wanted to add that you have the exact same symptoms as my dh,he was recently diagnosed with a 'bulging disk' in his back which was pressing on a nerve so pain went from his shoulder to his toes. He has endured months of pain, taken anti-inflammatories and painkillers. Then he was referred for a steroid injection at the local hospital and a course of 6 chiropracter treatments ( which he has organised, not on NHS) and is feeling the improvements. However, GP et al all say the real cure is rest, for about a month. Hope this isn't what you are experiencing, but is sounded so familiar, I felt I must post. Hope you feel better very soon. Take care.

sorry to hear you're feeling bad. i have had back pain all the time for about 4 years now, something i will just have to live with... know loads about back pain as me and dh have chronic probs. The thing to remember is that 95% of back pain last less than 2 weeks, and for most, never reoccurs. its so awful though, i know, but the chances are, a cause can be identified and then sorted. dont worry, tension and stress will make it worse. fingers crossed for you. IMO, osteopaths not first port of call, not till cause properly diagnosed by consultant, but thats my opinion. pilates is great for buldng and maintaining back and abdominal strength. I can reccomend a great physio and treatment centre in london if you want.... improved me and dh considerably. best wishes.

Hi Mears, only just noticed your post. You know better than most 'not to be so stupid', but sometimes 'knowing' makes your mind more likely to run off in numerous directions. But, the important thing to remember is, it is your own health you are concerned with and you have every right to feel this way. Neither are you being pathetic. Everyone is entitled to feel sorry for themselves now and again, so don't think you always have to support others, do as you are doing and let them support you for a change.

The bloods are off and will come back in their own time. Hopefully, the results will be clear. Either way, keep off-loading (for lack of a better term) as that in itself may help you to straighten things out in your mind and see the wood from the trees. You are obviously not on top form and need help to get back to your usual self. Hopefully the ant-inflammatory meds will give some control and be the much needed boost you need. If the bloods are fine, look at other areas. Jan de Vries runs a clinic in your area if I remember rightly, it might be worth considering the homeopathic avenue as an alternative and he does seem to do a lot of good work.

Meantime, take it as easy as you can, don't bog yourself down with other folks problems and concentrate on your own health for a while.

Take care and thinking of you (..and remember, you most certainly ain't stupid).

How are you feeling today Mears?
Backache is a horrible thing, like you say it can get you down and just make you feel worn out.
While you're waiting for blood smaples to come back can you treat yourself to some relexology? Having a back massage may do more harm than good but a bit of refloxology may be good?
Also have you got one of those hottie things, like a hwbottle but it's all oats and seed s and stuff (!) that you arm in the mwave?
Or how about a flotation tank this weekend?
TC xx

Blood tests are absolutely normal - no thyroid ones done mind you.
Pain in shoulder a bit better - still stiff. Left hip was improving up until yesterday. Worked a 12 hour shift and had a pool delivery. Right back to square one Will contact physio. I am obviously getting old and past it
